The Health and Safety Coordinator (HSC) will report directly to the Health and Safety Manager and is responsible for the coordination and workflow of all health and safety initiatives and projects. The HSC will provide ongoing support creating health and safety awareness, ensuring corporate compliance with legislation, up to date training and certifications, internal audits and inspections, statistical reports and consistently working towards maintaining and fostering a safe working environment and positive representation of the Health and Safety department. The HSC will be responsible for building relationships and providing support with employees and management in both the field and office operations.
Role And Responsibilities
Conduct project-specific orientation sessions with all workers and visitors new to the work site.
Arrange, assist with, or conduct training seminars for OZZ employees.
Conduct formal (documented) project inspections daily and report to the project superintendent to ensure hazards are identified and deficiencies are corrected.
Assist in equipment inspections, preparing reports and following up on any noted deficiencies.
Ensure the maintenance program for tools and equipment on the project is being followed.
Correct any unsafe conditions immediately, where possible and if not, report any uncorrected conditions to the project superintendent or the supervisor responsible.
Assist project supervision in conducting job hazard assessments.
Assist project personnel in conducting field level hazard assessments when required.
In conjunction with the project superintendent,
accompanying local government HS&E; inspectors during inspections and ensure corrective measures necessary to comply with legislation are taken.
Ensure all WHMIS controlled products supplied to OZZ projects are accompanied by a corresponding current Safety Data Sheet (SDS) and other documentation as required by local government regulations.
Ensure all HS&E; Safety Alerts, bulletins and notices are posted in conspicuous locations on the project.
Ensure all required HS&E; reports and meeting minutes are filed and copies are sent to the appropriate department.
Ensure project-specific emergency management plans are communicated to everyone on the project.
Assist the project supervisors and/or foreman to conduct incident investigations, analysis and completion of incident reports and summaries.
Review incident reports and maintaining monthly statistics to identify trends.
Always demonstrate a visible and professional HS&E; leadership role.
Skills And Qualifications
Post Secondary education and/or certification in Health & Safety or Human Resources
Experience in construction and/or industrial services
Experience in a COR certified environment is considered an asset
Knowledge of CVOR practices, inspection and regulations is considered an asset
Understanding and knowledge of all Federal, Provincial Employment Standards, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Human Rights Code, WCB, etc.

Proficient understanding/knowledge and use of Word/Excel and Business-related operations software
Ability to process raw data/information from multiple sources and make decisions based on this data
Ability to think critically and problem solve, excellent organizational skills and good judgment in making decisions
Ability to work in a team environment or to work independently with strong self-management.
