About Merlin Plastics Merlin Plastics is a leading plastic recycling and manufacturing company committed to sustainability, innovation, and operational excellence. We are currently seeking a reliable and motivated Lead Hand/ Shift Supervisor to join our Production team.
Position Overview The Lead Hand plays a key role in ensuring efficient production operations while maintaining a safe and well-organized plant. This position provides daily leadership, supports employees, ensures proper training, and helps maintain production quality and workflow. The Lead Hand reports directly to the Plant Manager and collaborates closely with the Foreman, workers, and management team.
Key Responsibilities Supervise and coordinate daily production activities.
Run, monitor, and optimize conveyor line operations to ensure continuous production flow.
Report to work on time and be prepared before the start of each shift.
Follow and enforce company policies, safety regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Support operations across all plant areas, including balers, forklifts, sorting lines, conveyor systems, and general labour functions.
Operate production equipment and provide relief for employees as required.
Assign work effectively to maximize productivity and efficiency.
Train, coach, and mentor new and existing employees.
Monitor employee performance and address unsafe or inappropriate behaviour promptly.
Troubleshoot production, equipment, and personnel issues.
Work closely with the maintenance team to minimize equipment downtime.
Conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of production equipment and conveyor lines.
Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained throughout the facility.
Verify production reports and shift documentation for accuracy.
Promote and enforce all health and safety requirements.
Communicate effectively with drivers, supervisors, maintenance personnel, and other departments.
Assist in resolving workplace concerns and support a positive team environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications Completion of secondary school
Minimum 1 year experience as a Lead Hand or Assistant Lead Hand in a plant environment
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Reliable, dependable, and positive attitude
Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels
Basic knowledge of human relations and supervision
Strong attention to detail
Forklift, loader, and skid steer experience is an asset
