1 Temporary up to 12 months with the possibility of extension
Bring your technical expertise in road maintenance and strong planning and contract management skills to the Ministry of Transportation. Here your work will make a significant contribution to ensure the safety and quality of Ontario's transportation infrastructure.
Please note that this position requires the successful candidate to report into the office five days on a daily basis, and that field work comprises roughly forty percent of the overall operational time per week.
Please also note that the field office for this position may be moving in the near future, which will change the reporting location within the Toronto Region for this position.
About the job In this role, you will:
Administer area maintenance contracts related to maintenance and repair of transportation related facilities, ensuring work is completed to contract documents and specifications
Monitor the contractors' delivery of maintenance and repair operations
Ensure contractors maintain work records
Monitor financial forecasts and expenditures
Provide analytical support to ensure effective delivery and value for money
NOTE: This position requires frequent travel and overnight stays.
What you bring to the team Mandatory requirements The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid G licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that s/he has a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Road Maintenance and Construction Knowledge: You have knowledge of the practices, procedures and standards related to the inspection and maintenance of roads, both during the summer and winter seasons
You have demonstrated knowledge of the repair of roads, including drainage systems
You have working knowledge of road construction practices, techniques, equipment and material




You have an understanding of the deterioration process of roads, sufficient to assess and determine the appropriateness of repair technique and timing
Contract Management Knowledge and Skills: You have knowledge of contract management and administration procedures, reporting requirements and documentation
You have the ability to prepare cost estimates for proposed work
You can read and interpret contract plans, documents and specifications to assist in negotiations and solve problems
Supervisory and Planning Skills: You have proven ability to plan and lead activities within established timeframes
You have the ability to supervise staff and manage stakeholders in high pressure situations
Communication, Negotiation and Computer Skills: You demonstrate negotiation, oral and written communication skills to deal effectively with contractors and the public
You have working knowledge of computers and various software applications such as word-processing, spreadsheets, databases and e-mail
Knowledge of Legislation: You have the ability to interpret and apply various acts and regulations such as the Highway Traffic Act and the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act
