POSITION TITLE: 0.50 High School Social Studies Classroom Teacher Position

COMPETITION END DATE: August 07, 2026 8:00 AM

LOCATION(S): Mount Pearl Senior High – 46 Ruth Avenue – Mount Pearl – A1N 2H5

EDUCATION REQUIRED: Bachelor of Education – Secondary

MAJOR(S) REQUIRED: Social Studies

TRAINING METHOD: SECONDARY

JOB TEXT: 50% TERM High School Social Studies Classroom Teacher Position, Mount Pearl Senior High, Mount Pearl. Duties to commence September 8, 2026 until June 25, 2027 or Until Incumbent Returns.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

- Engage professionally with colleagues, families and communities.
- Demonstrate the planning and implementation of effective and responsive teaching and learning practices.
- Provide evidence of how to shape a safe and positive learning setting for students and families.
- Demonstrate a love of learning and an ability to build learner and leadership capacity.
- Provide evidence and understanding of the impact of effective assessment practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Education - Secondary
- NL Teaching Certificate - Level IV or higher
- Appropriate Training Methods
- Social Studies Major (10 Courses)
- Equivalencies will be considered

Annual Teacher Salary Scale contained within the NLTA Provincial Collective Agreement and benefits contained within the agreement.

Applicants without the required qualifications may be considered in accordance with Clause 37.01 (d) of the provincial collective agreement.

If Interview Required: Please note that candidates designated as Recommendable in 2024 or 2025 individual or pool competitions will have that designation carried over for 2026 and will not require an interview for similar positions.

Interviews that occur during this hiring season will be designated as Recommendable or Not Recommendable at this time.
