About our client

Our client is a boutique law firm with a long-standing history. They are involved in the practice of high-profile matters including commercial/civil litigation, regulatory litigation, criminal matters, mediation and public inquiries. This is an in office position.

Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Partners, the Accounting Manager is a key member of the firm's leadership team responsible for the strategic and operational management of all financial functions. The Controller provides financial leadership, ensures the integrity of the firm's accounting and financial reporting, safeguards firm assets through strong internal controls, and ensures compliance with all regulatory, tax, and Law Society of British Columbia requirements.

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations, trust accounting, payroll, budgeting, cash flow management, financial planning, and reporting. This role serves as a trusted business advisor to the Partners by providing timely financial analysis, identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and profitability, and supporting informed business decision-making.

- Oversee the full accounting cycle (AP, AR, general ledger,



trust accounting) and manage month-end/year-end close.
- Prepare and present financial statements, management reports, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections to support strategic decision-making.
- Manage billing, collections, and revenue cycle to optimize cash flow.
- Oversee payroll, benefits, and statutory remittances in compliance with federal/provincial legislation.
- Ensure full compliance with Law Society of BC Trust Accounting Rules, including reconciliations, filings, and audits.
- Manage banking relationships and cash management; oversee tax filings (GST, PST, EHT, WorkSafeBC, TAF) and year-end/T2 corporate tax process, liaising with CRA and external accountants.
- Develop and improve internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes, recommending efficiencies and technology improvements.
- Support office operations and HR administration (vendor/contract management, compensation, benefits, employee records) as needed.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA designation is preferred (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including financial leadership responsibilities, ideally within a legal or professional services environment.
- Experience preparing financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash flow analyses, and management reporting.
- Solid understanding of Canadian payroll, corporate taxation, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as PCLaw, Sage, or similar.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial information to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain confidentiality, and thrive in a deadline-driven workplace.
