The Behaviour Interventionist is part of an educational and behavioural team that use findings from observations, assessments, and data to increase positive behaviours and reduce behaviours that interfere with learning, safety, and wellbeing in children with behavioural needs within their scope under the supervision of the Student Support Manager, Behavioural Lead, and external providers such as psychologists.

The Behaviour

Interventionist will aid in evaluating, implementing and reporting observations, tests, and data to develop plans that will aid Education staff, school supports, and child/youth in successful classroom, home, and life skills.

Duties And Responsibilities

- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support the development and implementation of individual behavioural support plans for student success and personal development.
- Communicate student needs to the Student Support Services Manager, Behaviour Lead, and Professional Services through regular reporting to ensure proper support is provided.
- Deliver programming support in both group and one-to-one settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching strategies and natural environment teaching arrangements to promote positive student behaviour, reduce skill deficits, and build foundational independent learning skills and strategies.
- Work with children/youth to identify behavioural trends and promote student success.
- Assist the Behaviour Lead in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of behaviour plans.
- Support parents and caregivers in implementing approved behavioural strategies under the direction of the Behaviour Lead.
- Consult with the external/internal clinical team on behavioural data to modify programs as needed.
- Adhere to applicable legislative requirements, regulations, policies, and procedures by receiving orientation and regular review to ensure a safe learning environment.
- Participate in regular case consultation,



supervision, and training with the Behaviour Lead to ensure consistency and effectiveness of behavioural programming.
- Collaborate with schools, families, and service providers to support the implementation of behaviour plans.
- Attend workshops and training to continually update knowledge of evidence-based strategies.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including case notes, behavioural data, student files, progress reports, and other required records in accordance with departmental policies and professional standards.
- Complete administrative tasks relating to the execution of programming, such as responding to inquiries by phone and email, scheduling, resource preparation, and future programming planning.
- Foster and encourage a positive environment that promotes a team approach to planning and development, service delivery, and problem solving.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Favourable Canadian Police Information Check (CPIC) with Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
- Valid G Driver’s Licence and/or access to a reliable vehicle.

Required Skills

- Diploma in Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Educator, Social Service Worker, or equivalent/higher education.
- Registered Behaviour Technician (RBT) certification is considered an asset.
- Minimum two years of experience supporting children and youth with developmental, behavioural, emotional, or learning needs.
- Experience implementing evidence-based support and programming for children/youth clients.

Requirements





- Knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and its application.
- Knowledge and understanding of BFN’s policies and procedures.
- Knowledge and awareness of BFN’s Education Programs and activities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive student information in accordance with applicable privacy legislation, policies, and procedures.
- Support the integration of Indigenous culture, language, land-based learning, and community values into behaviour support programming where appropriate.
- Knowledge of computer programs including Microsoft Office, Zoom, and other programs as deemed necessary for this position by the First Nation.
- Knowledge of social/emotional regulation and empathy-based programming.
- Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Positive presentation skills and the ability to respond to questions from management, public groups, and others.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret data, behavioural procedures, and regulations.
- Ability to write reports and input data.
- Ability to assist families, caregivers, and frontline staff in implementing behaviour plans.
- Ability to relate effectively.
- Ability to apply basic statistical mathematical operations for data collection and graphing.
- High level of sound and independent judgment, reasoning, and discretion.
- Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff privacy.
- Diplomatic and flexible team player.
