Organization Details Organization Name: Jocelyn House Hospice Address: 177 Egerton Road Winnipeg MB R2M 2W7 Website: http://www.jocelynhouse.ca Organizational Description: Jocelyn House is a home donated by the Hutton family. The mission of the home is to carry on the dream of their dauther Jocelyn Hutton: ading life to final days for the terminally ill, and their loved ones, by providing care and comfort in a home-like setting.

Volunteer Opportunity Details Volunteer

Opportunity ID: 6399 Description of Duties: Board Members are responsible for providing governance, strategic leadership, and oversight to ensure the organization fulfills its mission, remains financially sustainable, and complies with all applicable laws and regulations.

Board

Members act in the best interests of the organization and support its long-term success through informed decision-making and active engagement.

Key Responsibilities Governance and Oversight Attend and actively participate in Board meetings and committee meetings.

Contribute to the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan.

Establish and review organizational policies and governance practices.

Ensure the organization operates in accordance with its mission, vision, values, bylaws, and applicable legislation.

Monitor organizational performance and outcomes.

Financial Stewardship

Review and approve annual budgets and financial statements.

Monitor the organization's financial health and sustainability.

Ensure appropriate financial controls, risk management, and accountability measures are in place.

Support fundraising efforts and contribute to resource development initiatives. Advocacy and Community Engagement Serve as an ambassador for the organization within the community.

Promote awareness of the organization's mission, programs, and services.

Assist in building relationships with donors, community partners, stakeholders, and volunteers.

Executive Leadership Support

Hire, support,



and evaluate the Executive Director.

Provide guidance and support to organizational leadership while respecting operational boundaries.

Participate in succession planning and leadership development initiatives.

Board Member Expectations

Demonstrate commitment to the organization's mission and values.

Prepare for and attend Board meetings regularly.

Maintain confidentiality regarding Board discussions and organizational matters.

Exercise sound judgment, integrity, and ethical conduct.

Disclose and appropriately manage conflicts of interest.

Participate in Board orientation, education, and development opportunities.

Serve on at least one Board committee, as appropriate.

Qualifications Skills Required: Passion for and commitment to the organization's mission.

Ability to think strategically and contribute to governance discussions.

Experience in areas such as: human resources, government relations, fundraising, marketing/communications, public relations, board governance, policy development or business management is considered an asset.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively and respectfully with diverse stakeholders.

Skills Gained/Related Careers: Age: 18-30, 31-54, 55+ Time Commitment: Evening , Flexible Hours Attend 6 Board meetings annually.

Participate in committee meetings and special events as required.

Dedicate approximately 2-3 hours per month to Board-related activities.
