Volunteer Opportunity Details Volunteer
Prospect ID: 6426 Description of Duties: Position Summary The Bookkeeper oversees all day to day financial operations, maintains accurate accounting records, and ensures compliance with federal and provincial non-profit and taxation laws. This role supports the committee/board, as well as the external financial reviewers by providing timely, transparent financial information.
Core Responsibilities
Daily & Weekly Accounting Transaction Processing - Record all cash receipts, vendor bills, credit card activity, and employee reimbursements.
Accounts Payable - Enter invoices, obtain approvals, code expenses to accounts, and process payments.
Accounts Receivable - Issue invoices, and follow up on outstanding balances.
Bank Reconciliation - Reconcile bank, credit card, and PayPal/Stripe accounts monthly. MonthEnd Close General Ledger Maintenance - Prepare journal entries (accruals, deferrals).
Financial Statements - Produce monthly Balance Sheet and Income reports.
Variance Analysis - Compare actuals to budget and flag unusual variances. NonprofitSpecific Compliance Year-End Support - Assist external financial reviewer with tax filings and financial review.
Internal Controls - Maintain segregation of duties, approval workflows,
and documentation standards.
Annual Responsibilities External Financial Review
Preparation - Prepare schedules, pull documentation, and liaise with external financial reviewers.
Budget Support - Assist Treasurer in building annual budgets and cashflow forecasts.
YearEnd Close - Complete reconciliations, review fund balances, and finalize financial statements.
Required Skills & Qualifications Fullcycle accounting experience (1-3 years preferred).
Knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles.
Proficiency with Sage, QuickBooks Online or Xero.
High attention to detail, confidentiality, and accuracy.
Ability to communicate financial information to nonfinancial staff.

Review monthly financial statements with Treasurer
Perform duties noted above, heaviest time commitment is year-end work in October, and standing order invoicing for new book mid-October through mid-December
