VL Energy is an Alberta-based technology company specializing in emissions monitoring, energy management, and industrial performance improvement. We help energy producers, manufacturers, municipalities, and other industrial organizations improve regulatory compliance, reduce operating costs, and gain greater visibility into facility performance.

Our solutions include ES-PEMS, a software-based emissions monitoring platform, and Opti Energy, an energy management information system designed to identify inefficiencies and support measurable energy and emissions reductions.

Position Overview

VL Energy is seeking a motivated and commercially minded Business Development Intern to support our sales, market-development, and customer-engagement activities.

This position offers hands-on exposure to business-to-business technology sales within the energy, industrial, environmental, and municipal sectors. The successful candidate will assist with market research, lead generation, sales outreach, proposal development, customer relationship management, and partner engagement.

This is an excellent opportunity for a student or recent graduate interested in business development, clean technology, energy management, industrial operations, or environmental compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Market Research and Lead Generation

- Research prospective customers across the energy, utilities, manufacturing, municipal, and industrial sectors.
- Identify relevant facilities, projects, decision-makers, and business opportunities.
- Monitor funding programs, regulatory developments, procurement portals, and industry trends.
- Build and maintain organized prospect and account lists.
- Help qualify opportunities based on customer needs, strategic fit, project timing, and commercial potential.

Sales and Customer Engagement
- Support targeted email, LinkedIn, and telephone outreach campaigns.
- Assist with preparing for introductory meetings and customer discovery calls.
- Help identify customer challenges related to energy costs, emissions compliance, facility performance, and operational visibility.
- Prepare meeting agendas, background research, notes, and follow-up actions.




- Maintain accurate customer and opportunity information in the company’s CRM and sales trackers.

Proposal and Marketing Support
- Assist with preparing proposals, presentations, capability statements, case studies, and sales materials.
- Adapt company messaging for different industries, facilities, and decision-makers.
- Support the development of business cases, preliminary ROI assessments, and customer value propositions.
- Contribute to LinkedIn content, industry communications, and other marketing initiatives.
- Help coordinate webinars, conferences, trade shows, and customer presentations.

Partnerships and Internal Coordination
- Research and support relationships with engineering firms, environmental consultants, technology vendors, distributors, and industry associations.
- Coordinate with VL Energy’s business, process-engineering, and technical teams to gather information required for customer opportunities.
- Track action items, deadlines, customer requests, and proposal submissions.
- Assist with improving internal business-development processes, templates, and reporting.

Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree in business, marketing, economics, engineering, environmental science, energy management, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfortable conducting research and summarizing technical or commercial information.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
- Comfortable communicating professionally through email, LinkedIn, telephone, and virtual meetings.
- Able to work independently while collaborating with technical and commercial team members.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada for the duration of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in sales, customer service, marketing, research, consulting, or project coordination.
- Familiarity with CRM platforms, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Canva, Power BI,



or similar tools.
- Interest in Alberta’s energy and industrial sectors.
- General understanding of energy efficiency, emissions management, sustainability, industrial operations, or environmental regulations.
- Experience preparing presentations, proposals, market reports, or business cases.
- Ability to interpret basic technical information and translate it into transparent customer value.

Technical expertise in emissions monitoring or energy management is not required. VL Energy will provide training on its products, target markets, and customer-discovery process.
