Bake With Pookie is a custom cake and café business in the heart of Roncesvalles. We specialize in buttercream cakes — custom celebration cakes, wedding cakes, and daily café treats for our local community. We're a small, hands-on team and we're looking for someone who takes pride in clean, consistent work.

About the Role

We're hiring a Cake Decorator to join our kitchen team. This role is ideal for someone who's comfortable with the fundamentals of cake decorating and wants to grow their skills in a real bakery environment. At minimum, you should be confident doing clean, even base layer icing/crumb coating on cakes — this is a core requirement for the role. From there, you'll have the opportunity to learn and take on more advanced buttercream piping and finishing techniques as you grow with us.

Responsibilities

- Apply smooth, even base layer icing and crumb coats to cakes of various sizes
- Prepare cakes for final decoration (leveling, filling, stacking)
- Assist with buttercream piping, borders, and finishing touches as skills develop
- Maintain a clean, organized, food-secure workstation at all times
- Wash and sanitize cake molds, mixing bowls,



batter equipment, and decorating tools throughout the day
- Follow recipes and portion/consistency standards for icing and fillings
- Help pack and prepare orders for pickup/delivery
- Communicate with the team on daily order volume and timelines

Requirements

- Must be able to demonstrate basic base layer icing/crumb coating skills
- Attention to detail and a steady hand
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen during peak order periods
- Ability to maintain a clean and sanitary workstation, including regular dishwashing of baking equipment
- Moderate lifting ability required — up to 15–20 kg (e.g. lifting cake tiers, ingredient bags, equipment)
- Reliable and punctual
- Food handler certification (or willingness to obtain one)

Nice to Have (not required)

- Experience with buttercream piping or custom cake design
- Previous bakery or café experience
- An eye for current cake trends/design styles
