We are seeking one experienced carpenter and two enthusiastic assistant-builders to help us construct a custom, multigenerational home using clay-straw panels prefabricated in our workshop near Carleton Place. This fall you will join a small team of sustainable building enthusiasts in creating clay-straw mixes, framing wall structures and assembling panels. Come the spring, half the team will continue manufacturing at the workshop while the rest will commute to site in beautiful La Peche, QC where we will lay foundations and assemble the project.
Your expertise and attention to detail will help us craft durable, beautiful walls and ultimately a unique and healthy living space.
Carpenters Responsibilities
- Read and interpret detailed blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to accurately produce panels components.
- Operate hand-tamping tools, power tools, mixers, lifts and other manufacturing devices in order to stuff and assemble wall panels.
- Cut, shape, assemble, and finish wood materials for panel fabrication using carpentry techniques.
- Install interior structural members, flooring, trusses, siding and roofing
- Read site plans to accurately lay masonry foundation blocks.
- Apply rough and finish coats of lime-plaster.
- Always maintain respect and sensitivity around fellow coworkers to ensure a trusting and cooperative team dynamic
Assistant Builder's Responsibilities
- Assist Carpenter and Site/Shop manager in completing panels according to project timeline
- Operate hand-tamping tools, power tools, mixers, lifts and other manufacturing devices in order to stuff and assemble wall panels.
- Assist in heavy lifting while maintaining safety standards. Transporting large panels, tools and bulk quantities of materials within the shop premesis securely by hand, dolly or forklift.
- Problem solving, critical thinking, listening and attention to detail in a construction context.
- Always maintain respect and sensitivity around fellow coworkers to ensure a trusting and cooperative team energetic
