Role Summary

RIPTK is looking for a practical, commercially minded Chief Technology Officer with technology management experience within a large mobile network operator or telecommunications organization. This role is suited to a technology generalist who understands how hardware, embedded systems, software, cloud platforms, network infrastructure, and data come together in a commercial telecommunications environment. The CTO will own RIPTK’s overall technology strategy and product roadmap.

They will manage external development partners, oversee the progression of RIPTK Pulse from commercial MVP to a scalable product, and ensure that field deployments generate measurable and recognizable value for customers.

Key Responsibilities

Technology Strategy and Roadmap

- Own and continuously refine RIPTK’s technology and product roadmap.
- Translate the company’s commercial objectives into clear technical priorities, milestones, and development plans.
- Establish the technical architecture required to scale RIPTK’s hardware, communications, cloud, data, and customer-facing software.
- Evaluate technical trade-offs relating to cost, performance, reliability, manufacturability, security, scalability, and time to market.
- Ensure the technology roadmap remains aligned with the operational priorities of mobile network operators.

Product Development Leadership
- Oversee the integration of hardware, firmware, wireless communications, cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, APIs, dashboards, and analytics.
- Define product requirements, technical specifications, acceptance criteria, and performance standards.
- Establish disciplined processes for product testing, validation, quality assurance, documentation, and release management.
- Guide the product from commercial MVP through field validation and certification.

External Engineering and Vendor Management
- Serve as the primary technical leader responsible for managing our engineering firm and other technology partners/vendors.
- Define scopes of work, deliverables, timelines, budgets, and technical expectations.
- Review engineering progress and identify risks, dependencies, and gaps before they affect delivery.
- Hold external partners accountable for quality, documentation, timelines, and commercial outcomes.
- Determine which technical capabilities should remain outsourced and which should eventually be developed internally.

Field Deployment and Customer Value




- Lead the technical planning of field trials and commercial deployments with mobile network operators and telecommunications partners.
- Ensure field data is collected, structured, analyzed, and translated into actionable customer insights.
- Convert field findings into product improvements, customer use cases, commercial evidence, and roadmap priorities.

Data and Analytics
- Define RIPTK’s strategy for collecting, managing, analyzing, and presenting field and device data.
- Ensure data generated by RIPTK products is accurate, secure, and reliable.
- Guide the development of dashboards, alerts, reporting tools, integrations, and future analytics capabilities.
- Establish appropriate practices for data governance, ownership, access, retention, and cybersecurity.

Technical Customer and Partner Engagement
- Translate complex technical information into clear operational and commercial language.
- Support customer discovery, technical sales discussions, pilot design, partnership development, and due diligence.
- Gather structured feedback from customers and ensure it informs product development decisions.

Team and Organizational Development
- Build and lead RIPTK’s internal technical organization as the company grows.
- Identify future hiring needs across hardware, firmware, software, cloud, data, product, quality, and field engineering.
- Establish clear technical ownership, decision-making processes, development standards, and performance expectations.
- Create a culture of accountability, practical problem-solving, technical excellence, and customer focus.
- Mentor technical team members and support effective collaboration across engineering, operations, product, and commercial functions.

Risk, Quality, and Compliance
- Oversee compliance, testing, and telecommunications requirements.
- Ensure products are designed for reliable operation in demanding outdoor field environments.
- Develop appropriate processes for incident management, root-cause analysis, product changes, and continuous improvement.




- Protect RIPTK’s intellectual property and support the development of its patent and technology strategy.

Required Experience

- A degree in engineering, computer science, or related technical degree.
- 10+ years of telecommunications experience in a technical capacity.
- 5+ years managing a team with a large mobile network operator.
- Strong understanding of mobile network infrastructure, field operations, network performance, and telecommunications deployment environments.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary technology programs involving a combination of hardware, embedded systems, software, cloud platforms, connectivity, and data.
- Demonstrated experience managing external engineering firms, vendors, manufacturers, or technical delivery partners.
- Ability to connect technical performance with customer value, operational impact, and return on investment.
- Experience managing technical budgets, timelines, risks, requirements, and delivery milestones.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with both technical and executive audiences.

Preferred Experience

- Experience with antenna systems, radio frequency technology, RF monitoring, network test and measurement, or telecommunications infrastructure.
- Experience with cloud architecture, data platforms, dashboards, APIs, alerting systems, or analytics products.
- Experience moving a product from MVP through NPI, DFM, certification, and commercial scale.
- Experience in a venture-backed startup, scale-up, innovation group, or new product commercialization environment.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity, data governance, and product certification.

* The annual salary range for this role is $150,000 CAD to $200,000 CAD. * For candidates who demonstrate full readiness for the defined scope of the role, the typical starting salary is $175,000 CAD. Offers below this point reflect candidates we believe can grow into the full scope of the role with support and development.
