We are seeking a highly organized, strategic, and collaborative Director, Finance and Administration to lead the organization's financial and administrative functions. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced finance professional who is passionate about supporting community impact through strong financial stewardship and operational excellence.
Position Summary The Director, Finance and Administration is responsible for overseeing the organization's financial management, accounting operations, grants and funding administration, budgeting, payroll oversight, compliance, and administrative systems. The successful candidate will ensure CCAWR's financial resources are managed with integrity, transparency, and accountability while supporting strategic decision-making and organizational sustainability.
Working closely with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, Finance Committee, auditors, funding agencies, and program managers, the Director ensures compliance with Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) requirements, funding agreements, and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
Lead the organization's financial planning, budgeting, and reporting processes.
Prepare annual operating and program budgets.
Monitor cash flow, financial performance, and organizational reserves.
Produce accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Prepare financial forecasts and support long-term sustainability planning.
Grants, Funding & Claims Administration
Prepare financial claims and reimbursement requests for government and foundation-funded programs.
Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, reporting deadlines, and funding utilization.
Ensure expenditures comply with funding agreements and eligible expense guidelines.
Maintain supporting documentation for all claims and financial reports.
Support grant proposal budgeting and financial planning.
Accounting & Compliance
Ensure compliance with
Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) charitable regulations
Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO)
Employment Standards legislation
Funding agreements
Board-approved financial policies
Payroll & Human Resources Administration
Oversee payroll processing and statutory remittances.
Administer employee benefits and payroll records.
Ensure compliance with employment legislation and organizational policies.
Administration & Operations
Oversee office administration and organizational systems.
Support technology systems and administrative processes that enhance organizational effectiveness.
Board & Governance Support
Present financial information to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
Support the development of financial and governance policies.
Risk Management
Identify financial and operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
Strengthen internal controls and fraud prevention measures.
Ensure appropriate segregation of financial duties.
Monitor compliance with organizational policies and funding requirements.
Qualifications
Education
Required
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Preferred
CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA certification.
Experience
Minimum five (5) years of progressive financial management experience.
Experience within the charitable or not-for-profit sector is preferred.
Experience administering government-funded programs and preparing financial claims.
Experience preparing audited financial statements.
Experience managing multiple grants and funding agreements.
Experience supporting Boards of Directors is considered an asset.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms

Compensation: The hourly starting salary for this position will fall between $30 and $40. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
