SUMMARY The OTSU Elections Committee is a committee of the Ontario Tech Student Union (OTSU) and shall be a special committee of the Board. The Committee is dedicated to working with the OTSU Executive Team, Board of Directors, and full-time staff to support the oversight of the elections process to ensure transparency, accuracy, and fairness. We are hiring for three (3) positions, as the Elections Committee requires membership of 3 at-large student representatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Election Committee shall:
- Hear any appeal of a decision that a Chief Returning Officer (CRO) makes;
- Have voting rights to overrule a decision or interpretation made by the CRO;
- Meet regularly to discuss the status of the elections;
- Familiarize themselves with the Bylaws, Elections Policy and Procedure;
- Make recommendations to the CRO on all matters, including Bylaw amendments.
- Please refer to the Terms of Reference for additional duties and responsibilities of committee members.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a full-time student (enrolled in 3 or more courses) in valuable academic standing (with a cumulative GPA above 2.0) at Ontario Tech University.
- Previous experience serving on committees is considered an asset.
- Previous experience or knowledge of elections (student, government, etc.) and/or experience working with elected officials is considered an asset.
TIME COMMITMENT
- Regular meetings, which include engaging in discussions, as well as both scheduled and ad hoc meetings. This committee may or may not meet frequently outside of election season, but will need to set aside time for planning.
