SUMMARY The OTSU Elections Committee is a committee of the Ontario Tech Student Union (OTSU) and shall be a special committee of the Board. The Committee is dedicated to working with the OTSU Executive Team, Board of Directors, and full-time staff to support the oversight of the elections process to ensure transparency, accuracy, and fairness. We are hiring for three (3) positions, as the Elections Committee requires membership of 3 at-large student representatives.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Election Committee shall:
Hear any appeal of a decision that a Chief Returning Officer (CRO) makes;
Have voting rights to overrule a decision or interpretation made by the CRO;
Meet regularly to discuss the status of the elections;
Familiarize themselves with the Bylaws, Elections Policy and Procedure;
Make recommendations to the CRO on all matters, including Bylaw amendments.
Please refer to the Terms of Reference for additional duties and responsibilities of committee members. QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a full time student (enrolled in 3 or more courses) in good academic standing (with a cumulative GPA above 2.0) at Ontario Tech University.
Previous experience serving on committees is considered an asset. Previous experience or knowledge of elections (student, government, etc.) and/or experience working with elected officials is considered an asset. TIME COMMITMENT Regular meetings, which include engaging in discussions, as well as both scheduled and ad hoc meetings.
