Electrical Design Engineer – Building Systems

Job Type: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Toronto, mix of on-site and work-from-home)
Travel: Occasional travel to project sites may be required
Overview
We are seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of electrical building systems for residential care facilities, office buildings, and commercial projects. This hybrid role combines technical design work with cross‑disciplinary collaboration, ensuring all electrical systems meet safety, code, and performance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and review electrical systems for commercial and residential care projects.
- Prepare detailed electrical drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Perform load calculations, short‑circuit analysis, and power systems studies.
- Develop power distribution layouts, panel schedules, feeder routing, and protective device coordination.
- Produce lighting and lighting‑control layouts aligned with project requirements.
- Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, and mechanical teams.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
- Conduct site reviews,
respond to RFIs, and assist with issue resolution.
- Support cost estimating, value engineering, and evaluation of new technologies.
- Ensure compliance with the Canadian Electrical Code and applicable building regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (P.Eng or eligibility is an asset).
- Robust foundation in electrical engineering principles applied to building systems.
- Experience in electrical design for multi‑family residential, mid‑rise, or high‑rise building projects.
- Experience in electrical design, equipment selection, and preparation of technical documentation.
- Knowledge of power distribution systems, panel schedules, feeders, and protective devices.
- Familiarity with load flow, short‑circuit, and reliability/safety requirements.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design/modeling tools.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Experience with building design or construction projects (especially healthcare or senior living is an advantage).
