At Inspectify, we are the world’s only vertically integrated property inspection and valuation platform. We are backed by some of the most prominent venture firms including Fundrise, Nine Four VC, Foundation VC and YCombinator (S20). Our platform streamlines home inspections and valuation through our network of over 2,000 inspector partners in the US and Canada. Our proprietary platform brings visibility and data regarding the properties owned by our customers.
Our team is growing and we’re looking for an additional hands-on Engineering Manager to join our tech team. You’ll be responsible for leading, mentoring and coaching a group of engineers while building new features on our inspection platform using Rails and its awesome ecosystem. This is a fully remote job, but we get together from time to time for in person meetings and collaboration sessions (4-5 times a year).
Despite having an hands-on component, you’ll be managing direct reports, working on defining and improving our processes, contributing to the roadmap planning and shaping/maintaining our engineering culture, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Leading and managing a group of engineers across our different squads
- Take on exciting technical challenges in our different systems, as we keep building some important projects to support our growth and operational efficiency. You’ll work in Ruby on Rails to build systems, features, APIs, critical background tasks and other cool features that powers our infrastructure and systems. You’ll have direct reports and ownership of several non-code related initiatives, but there’s an expectation to still contribute as an IC on some features and projects.
- Work with other technical leaders to elevate our engineering standards
- Help us refine our engineering culture and best practices
- Own all parts of the development process, including design, development, testing, code review and ensuring proper release and delivery.
- Identifies technical opportunities and propose ways to improve on them
- Maintain current technical knowledge to support rapidly changing technology,
always on a look out for new technologies that would help Inspectify be more successful.
- Work closely with members of the Product, Operations, Sales and Customer Success team to find answers and solutions for our users and to make our team more efficient.
You Have:
- 7+ years of professional experience in software development as a backend engineer
- 3+ years of qualified experience as an Engineering Manager, Director of Engineering, etc.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and emotional intelligence that enable you to work closely with Product Managers, engineering peers and other technical leaders
- A desire to elevate the product, technology and your colleagues to the next level
- Strong experience with backend technologies, particularly Ruby on Rails or other similar backend technologies.
- Deep understanding of web technology stacks, including browser caching, cookies, http request, GraphQL, security, and response mechanism, etc.
- Strong experience designing, building and optimizing APIs and relational database schemas.
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, branching strategies and modern application development
- Good knowledge of the AWS ecosystem, Heroku, Github, CircleCI, PostHog, Sentry, New Relic, etc (or equivalent)
- Comfortable with ambiguity and ability to adjust quickly in a dynamic environment
Bonus points if you:
- Have worked in fast growing startups before
- Are familiar with event and/or domain driven design patterns (e.g. domain events).
- Have experience in the real estate industry, PropTech or have built marketplaces before
- Have experience with front-end and mobile technology like Javascript, React, React Native
- Have experience with RabbitMQ or similar AMQP based implementations, ProtoBuf, Redis, Resque or Sidekiq
- Are proficient with CSS and SASS
