O'Brien Fabrications Ltd. has been providing custom metal fabrication services throughout Southwestern Ontario since 1989. Based in Guelph, we primarily serve Guelph, Kitchener, Cambridge, and the surrounding communities.

Our company operates in three key divisions:

Our projects range from residential and commercial construction to industrial maintenance, engineered fabrication, and design-build projects. We specialize in custom metal fabrication including:

We are a custom fabrication shop—not a production welding shop. Every project is different, so we are looking for individuals with real custom fabrication experience who take pride in producing quality workmanship.

Position Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator for a temporary full-time position (3–6 months, approximately 40 hours per week), with the opportunity to become a permanent member of our team for the right candidate.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys custom fabrication, can work efficiently in a rapid-paced environment, and understands the importance of meeting customer deadlines while maintaining exceptional quality.

The successful candidate will have strong welding and fabrication experience, be able to read and interpret fabrication drawings, and consistently produce clean, accurate welds with close attention to detail.

Experience with cutting, preparing, fitting, and fabricating steel is highly preferred.



Candidates with strong welding skills who are looking to further develop their fabrication abilities will also be considered.

You will work alongside experienced fitters and fabricators on a wide variety of custom fabrication and light structural steel projects. Some occasional field installation and on-site welding may also be required.

Key Responsibilities

- Read and interpret fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Cut, prepare, fit, fabricate, and weld steel components to specified tolerances.
- Perform GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and SMAW (Stick) welding.
- Work with plate, sheet metal, and structural steel members.
- Assist and collaborate with fitters and fabricators to complete projects.
- Maintain high-quality standards and attention to detail throughout fabrication.
- Safely operate fabrication equipment and shop tools.
- Participate in field installations and perform on-site welding when required.
- Work independently and as part of a team to meet production schedules.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Qualifications

- Minimum 5–10 years of proven experience in a custom fabrication and welding environment.
- Strong experience reading fabrication drawings and weld details.
- Excellent fitting and fabrication skills.
- Proficient in GMAW (MIG), FCAW (Flux Core), and SMAW (Stick) welding.
- Experience with aluminum and stainless steel is considered an asset but is not required.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and shows a sense of urgency.
- Attendance is very important to meet our tight deadlines
- Takes pride in producing quality workmanship.
- Able to work effectively with minimal supervision.





Required Certifications

- Current CWB certifications for GMAW and FCAW.
- CWB SMAW 4G certification or actively working toward certification.
- Working at Heights certificate.
- Elevated Work Platform (MEWP/Scissor Lift/Boom Lift) certification.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and ability to drive company vehicles when needed
- Reliable transportation.
- Must reside within approximately a 45-minute commute of Guelph.
