Job Overview

The Family Support Coach supports caregivers of adolescents experiencing behavioral, emotional, and relational challenges through group programs, drop-in supports, and individualized coaching. Using a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, strengths-based, and family-centered approach, this role helps caregivers build confidence, strengthen family relationships, and develop practical strategies that promote positive youth development and well-being.

The Family Support Coach provides case management, service coordination, advocacy, and referrals while facilitating access to community resources and supports. Working collaboratively with families and community partners, the role fosters caregiver resilience, peer connection, and capacity building, ensuring inclusive and responsive services that support diverse families and contribute to positive outcomes for youth and caregivers.

Job Conditions

This is a full time (35 hours/week) with flexible schedule Monday through Friday, 2 evenings/week, and the occasional weekend based on the needs of families and staff and to support day/evening programming. The main office space is located at 10320 146 Street.

Key responsibilities

- Serve as a positive ambassador for Terra Centre for Teen Parents by practicing in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, values, policies, strategic goals, and practice model.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment and participate in performance reviews, supervision, training, and organizational initiatives.
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate caregiver support groups, parenting workshops, and drop-in sessions for caregivers of adolescents.
- Deliver engaging, strengths-based education on adolescent development, communication, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, mental health, caregiver wellness, and positive parenting strategies.
- Create safe, inclusive, and welcoming environments that foster peer support, caregiver resilience, community connection, and meaningful participation.
- Apply trauma-informed, culturally responsive, family-centered, and strengths-based practices in all aspects of service delivery.
- Integrate culturally respectful approaches that recognize Indigenous histories, newcomer experiences, diverse cultural identities,



and intersectional family dynamics.
- Provide individualized coaching and support to caregivers facing behavioral, emotional, relational, or mental health challenges with their adolescents.
- Conduct intake, assessment, goal planning, and ongoing reviews to identify strengths, needs, risks, and opportunities for growth.
- Develop and implement individualized service plans that strengthen caregiver capacity, family relationships, and youth well-being.
- Coach caregivers in communication, emotional regulation, co-regulation, boundary setting, routine development, and conflict de-escalation strategies.
- Monitor family safety, assess risk factors, and respond appropriately to concerns related to crisis, self-harm, or suicide in accordance with organizational policies.
- Maintain an active caseload and provide flexible services through office-based, community-based, in-home, and virtual formats.
- Conduct intake screening, service triage, waitlist management, and referrals based on urgency, complexity, and identified needs.
- Provide advocacy, system navigation, and connections to community, cultural, health, education, and mental health resources.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with families, community partners, and service providers to ensure coordinated and responsive support.
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including assessments, case notes, service plans, outcome measures, and progress reports.
- Participate in program development, evaluation, continuous improvement initiatives, and data collection to support quality service delivery and positive outcomes for caregivers and youth.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Social Work and minimum three years of experience working with families.
- Experience providing outreach support services through home visitation.
- Experience providing life skills coaching and training.
- Experience working with low income and marginalized participants, including people facing multiple barriers.

Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to work with families from diverse cultural backgrounds and develop positive, effective, professional rapport and relationships with youth.
- Knowledge of issues associated with people impacted by mental illness and problematic substance use.
- Knowledge of referral services and supports within the Edmonton community and/or the ability to research and connect with community resources.
- Knowledge of child/youth development and child-parent attachment.
- Understanding and knowledge of the issues pregnant and parenting young people face.

Other requirements:
- Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle available for regular use with 2 million liability insurance.
- Clear (or Executive Director approved) 3-year driver’s abstract.
- Ability to work flexible hours including two evenings per week.
- Manual dexterity required to operate various appliances and equipment.
- Ability to lift between 25- 50 lbs.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR (Level C Intermediate).
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
- Clear (or Executive Director approved) Police Information Check (including vulnerable Sector search)

Upon completion of a probationary period, we offer a comprehensive, competitive, extended health benefits package including RRSP contribution. Staff have three weeks of vacation, and, in addition, the agency is closed between Christmas day and New Years.
