Location: Calgary + Region, Alberta
Posted: August 6, 2026
Salary: $1,250 per month
Description Term: September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2028
Future of Good is expanding its national network of regional representatives, and we’re seeking a Calgary‑based freelance journalist with solid community ties to help us deepen coverage of philanthropy, social impact, and community innovation in Alberta.
If you’re a journalist who knows Calgary’s social‑purpose ecosystem — its leaders, its emerging ideas, its underreported stories — this role gives you a platform to elevate them to a national audience.
About The Role As Calgary’s Regional Representative, you’ll act as a connector, scout, and storyteller. You’ll identify compelling initiatives, trends, and voices across the city and region, and feed those insights into Future of Good’s editorial planning, newsletters, and events.
Your work ensures Calgary’s perspectives are represented in national conversations about philanthropy, mutual aid, community development, and social innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Monthly Regional Round‑Up: Produce a short written round‑up each month highlighting Calgary‑specific news, trends, developments, upcoming events, and notable people or organizations.
- Ongoing Regional Tips: Submit leads and updates through our internal reporting form as you encounter them in your reporting or community networks.
- Engagement with Local Academic and Research Centres: Identify and maintain relationships with Calgary‑based academic centres, research hubs, and institutes focused on philanthropy, social impact, community development,
or related fields.
- Content Production (up to twice per year): Contribute to Future of Good content — this may include writing a regional update, conducting an interview, participating in an event, or contributing to a feature.
- Coverage of Key Sector Events (up to twice per year): Attend and cover major social‑impact or philanthropy‑related events in Calgary or southern Alberta. Travel and accommodation will be covered with prior approval.
- Project Meetings Join twice‑yearly virtual meetings with other regional representatives to share insights, challenges, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Journalism experience — reporting, interviewing, research, or editorial work
- Strong knowledge of Calgary’s social‑purpose, non-profit, philanthropic, or community‑innovation landscape
- Deep local networks and an ability to surface underreported stories
- Clear, concise writing skills and strong editorial judgment
- Curiosity, compassion, and a commitment to community‑rooted storytelling
- Comfort working independently as a contractor
- Accreditation and Recognition
- Representatives will be featured on the Future of Good website, included in relevant newsletters and editorial products, and credited as contributors on articles produced through their connections.
