We're Hiring! Gay Men's Health Coordinator

We are looking for an individual who is community-minded and passionate about the health and wellbeing of men who have sex with men (MSM+) in Prince Edward Island. This position will be based in Charlottetown.

At PEERS Alliance, our work is based in trauma-informed practice and harm reduction. We serve people of all genders and sexual orientations, and work for the safety and thriving of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Epekwitk. We support those living with and at risk for HIV, Hep C and all sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections by offering a variety of programs and services targeted to diverse communities in PEI.

We also support those who use drugs in developing strategies to reduce the risk of negative health outcomes. Our programming strives to address the underlying issues affecting the health and welfare of our communities by countering stigma and creating environments where all are welcome. In all our work, we strive to be anti-racist.

Position Details

Reporting to the PEERS Alliance Executive Director and Program Director, the Gay Men's Health Coordinator will engage MSM+ communities in health promotion activities and events, and develop and deliver community-based educational workshops with a specific focus on MSM communities.

- This position is anticipated to be funded to March 31, 2028.
- This position is based in Charlottetown, but relationship-building meetings, events, and activities may take place in communities all over the island.
- A valid PEI driver's license, insurance, and a reliable vehicle is a strong asset.
- A criminal record check and vulnerable sector check will be required.
- This position is full time: 37.5 hrs/week, paid every two weeks at the rate of $33/hour, and includes a group health benefits plan.
- Paid time off: During the first year of work, there will be two weeks of paid vacation. During the second year, there will be three weeks.
- In addition to vacation time, there are two weeks of paid office closure during the December/January holidays, and a scheduled paid mental health week each May.





Responsibilities: Program Development, Implementation, and Evaluation

Carry out activities outlined in the funded project connected with this position, including but not limited to:

- Forming an advisory group that meets four times per fiscal year, and supporting members to guide and co-lead other project activities
- Delivering five educational workshops on STBBI prevention and training each fiscal year, collecting feedback and post-education behaviour change data
- Carrying out all data collection and project evaluation activities and contributing numbers to the final evaluation
- Seek out financial resources through grants or fundraising initiatives to support the continuation of the Nutrition Program for HIV+ Island residents
- Implement the Nutrition Program for HIV+ Island Residents through monthly mailouts.
- Additional activities as funding is available to complement STBBI prevention education, under supervision of the executive director.
- Track grant reporting deadlines and prepare draft interim and final grant reports.
- Administer project activities related to STBBI education, prevention, testing, and treatment.

Community Development

- Maintain cordial and collaborative partnerships with community stakeholders, funders, and decision makers to promote the health and well-being of MSM across the lifespan
- Participate actively in relevant coalitions, networks, and other community meetings and events
- Respond to inquiries regarding MSM health, and provide consultation to other organizations as required
- Promote MSM project activities in compliance with our social media policies

- Attend PEERS Alliance staff meetings and staff development events in-person where possible
- Participate in internal committees as required
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
- Respond to internal communications in a timely manner during work hours
- Uphold professional confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries at all times regarding information gained as a staff person of PEERS Alliance
- Other duties as required

Qualifications

- Knowledgeable on topics and issues relevant to 2SLGBTQ+ communities, particularly gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM+)
- Experience with program development, implementation, and evaluation in the community or public health sector
- Group facilitation skills and experience, including delivering educational workshops
- Experience building and maintaining partnerships with community stakeholders, funders, and decision makers
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, including grant tracking and report writing
- Capacity to work with people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Willingness to complete a criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
- Knowledge of the French language will be considered an asset, but is not required
- Related educational accreditation (diploma or degree) will be considered an asset, but is not required
