Health Care Aide (HCA) – Permanent Full-Time Scheduled Shifts
Awake Overnight – 4–5 Nights per Week, Every Weekend
10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.

Employed within a numbered business (not cash-based employment)
This is a physically demanding position. Applicants must be able to safely lift, hold, reposition, and transfer up to 50 lbs using proper body mechanics and equipment, and remain on their feet for most of the shift.
Mandatory Qualifications
- Female caregiver required due to the intimate personal-care requirements of the position and the client’s privacy and dignity needs
- Fluency in English with robust professional verbal and written communication skills
- Current HCA certification, LPN licence, or equivalent recognized healthcare credential
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada
- Physically capable of standing for extended periods (up to 8 hours) and safely assisting with transfers and repositioning
- Minimum one (1) year of relevant healthcare experience preferred*
- Current CPR certification
- Valid Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search completed within the past 12 months
- Familiarity with medical terminology and ability to accurately identify medical supplies
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity home-care environment
- Demonstrated honesty, reliability, professionalism, and strong work ethic
Equivalent experience in a comparable care setting may be considered.
About the Role
We are seeking a dependable, compassionate, and professional Health Care Aide (HCA), or LPN working in an HCA capacity, to support the care of our 20-year-old daughter,
who lives with Transverse Myelitis.
The patient is paralyzed from the neck down and ventilator-dependent, but is cognitively intact, communicative, and actively involved in directing her care preferences. Respectful, attentive, and client-centered care is essential.
This role requires someone who:
- Communicates clearly and professionally
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Remains calm and responsive in emergency or high-pressure situations
- Takes direction well and adapts to changing care needs
- Works efficiently and manages time effectively throughout the shift
- Understands the importance of dignity, consistency, and respectful long-term care relationships
This position involves both the physical and emotional demands associated with caring for an individual with a spinal cord injury and complex medical needs. Job Duties Include (but are not limited to)
- Oral feeding
- Mechanical lift transfers and repositioning
- Range of motion exercises
- Peri-care and full personal care
- Intake/output tracking and documentation
- Ostomy care
- Suprapubic catheter care
- Basic tracheostomy and ventilator support, including suctioning
- G-tube care and feeding
- Showering using a commode chair
- Supporting phone and tablet use
- Charting and documentation
- Team communication and collaboration
- Laundry and light housekeeping duties
- Light meal preparation
- Infection-control cleaning tasks, including disinfecting household areas

- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary home-care team
- Appropriate notice is required for vacation requests and scheduling changes
- Commitment to maintaining client dignity, privacy, and comfort
The ideal candidate is confident in their skills, learns quickly, communicates honestly, works hard, and prioritizes client-centered care. Building trust, rapport, and a respectful working relationship with our daughter is an important part of this role.

Compensation & Benefits
- Up to $24.00/hour
- 4% vacation pay paid on every paycheque
- Employer contributions to Employment Insurance (EI) and Canada Pension Plan (CPP), as required
- Bi-weekly pay (every other Friday) via direct deposit
