Job Summary
HDC Calgary – Hockey Development Centre is looking for experienced and passionate Hockey Skills Coaches to join our growing coaching team.
We are seeking coaches who are confident on the ice, have a strong technical hockey background, and enjoy working with youth athletes of various ages and skill levels. Our Skills Coaches may work within HDC development programs, team training sessions, small groups, camps, clinics, and private lessons.
This is a part-time/casual position, with opportunities for increased hours and full-time coaching opportunities for the right candidate.
Duties
- Lead individual and group skill development sessions focused on skating, puck handling, shooting, and game tactics
- Demonstrate proper techniques and provide constructive feedback to players of various ages and skill levels
- Incorporate fun, dynamic drills that motivate athletes to improve their hockey skills
- Ensure all training activities adhere to safety standards and facility policies
- Collaborate with other coaching staff to plan and execute comprehensive training programs
- Maintain organized session plans and track athlete progress regularly
- Foster a supportive environment that encourages teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship
Requirements
- 2+ years of Skills Coaching experience within teams, development programs, or small-group lessons
- Experience working with youth hockey players at various ages and skill levels
- Strong understanding of player development and technical skill progression
- Vulnerable Sector Check – can be completed after an offer
- Reliable, professional, and committed to providing a positive development environment for athletes
- High-level playing experience is considered an asset
- Head Coaching and/or Assistant Coaching experience is considered an asset
- Current First Aid certification preferred; certification can be completed after an offer of employment
- Strong communication and leadership skills
Compensation $50–$150 per session, based on experience, qualifications, session type, and coaching responsibilities.
Availability
- Part time / Casual
- Weekday and weekend availability
- Daytime and evening opportunities may be available
- Full-time coaching opportunities available for qualified candidates
