Role Summary:
The HVAC Manager is responsible for leading the company's HVAC Design Services and Tarion/Investigation Services, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality, code-compliant engineering and building science solutions. This role provides strategic and operational leadership to a team, overseeing client relationships, project execution, technical quality, and team development.
The HVAC Manager is accountable for maintaining the company's reputation for technical excellence and exceptional client service while driving operational efficiency, profitability, and continuous improvement. Working collaboratively with internal departments and industry stakeholders, the role supports the company's mission of making high-performance homes practical, understandable, and achievable through innovative residential HVAC design and building science expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Management
· Lead, mentor, and develop the HVAC Design and Investigation teams to achieve departmental goals and deliver exceptional client service.
· Foster a collaborative, respectful, and high-performing team culture focused on continuous learning and accountability.
· Provide coaching, performance management, training, and technical guidance to support employee growth and engagement.
· Promote effective communication and collaboration across all business units.
Project & Client Management
· Oversee the successful delivery of HVAC design and investigation projects from initiation through completion.
· Manage client relationships, ensuring responsive communication, technical excellence, and a high level of customer satisfaction.
· Monitor project schedules, workloads, resource allocation, and financial performance to support profitability and operational efficiency.
· Support business development by maintaining strong relationships with builders, consultants, and industry partners.
HVAC Design Services
· Provide technical leadership for residential HVAC system design, ensuring designs comply with applicable building codes, energy standards, and industry best practices.
· Oversee the preparation and review of permit-ready HVAC design packages, heat loss/heat gain calculations, ventilation designs, duct layouts, and equipment selections.
· Maintain consistency, accuracy, and quality across all HVAC design deliverables.
· Support the ongoing development and improvement of design standards, processes, and technical resources.
Tarion & Investigation Services
· Lead the delivery of residential building science investigations and technical consulting services.
· Oversee the quality and consistency of investigation reports, technical reviews, and client recommendations.
· Ensure investigations are completed using sound building science principles and industry best practices.
· Support the development of investigation procedures that improve efficiency, quality, and client outcomes.
Operational Excellence
· Continuously evaluate and improve departmental processes to enhance productivity, consistency, profitability, and service delivery.
· Ensure seamless coordination between HVAC, Building Science, Field Testing, and other internal departments.
· Monitor project metrics and departmental performance to identify opportunities for improvement.
· Support the development and implementation of operational standards and quality assurance practices.
Technical Leadership
· Maintain advanced knowledge of residential HVAC design, building science, energy efficiency, and evolving industry standards.
· Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, energy codes, and regulatory requirements.
· Provide technical expertise and guidance to internal teams, clients, and industry stakeholders.
· Encourage innovation and continuous improvement in design practices and technical services.
Industry Engagement
· Represent the company professionally within the residential construction and home-building industry.
· Support industry education initiatives through technical presentations,
training, and knowledge sharing.
· Maintain professional certifications and pursue ongoing professional development to remain current with emerging technologies, standards, and best practices.
Education and Experience/Skill Requirements:
· Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in HVAC design, mechanical systems, building science, or a related discipline.
· Ontario BCIN qualification for HVAC design (required).
· HRAI Residential Air System Design Technician (RASDT) designation or equivalent HVAC certifications preferred.
· Membership in relevant professional organizations such as HVAC Designers of Canada and CACEA is considered an asset.
· Extensive experience in residential HVAC design, project management, and team leadership.
· Thorough knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, National Building Code, residential HVAC design standards, SB-12, and applicable energy codes.
· Proficiency with residential HVAC design and energy modelling software (e.g., Wrightsoft, HOT2000, AutoCAD, Revit) and Microsoft Office applications.
· Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, problem-solving, and client relationship management skills.
Hours: Monday to Friday – Regular Business in-office hours with after-hours availability for meetings, consultation, urgent phone calls and travel.
Will be required to attend tradeshows, conferences, in-house and on location educational training session attendance requirements during regular office hours as well as outside of office hours as needed.

Pay: $93,000.00 per year
