About the role:

The Hospital strives to deliver care that is centred on patients and families. Patient and Family Centred Care (PFCC)

is the provision of care that is respectful of, and responsive to individual patient/family preferences, needs, and values and ensures that those values guide all decisions. Creating a caring environment for patients and families ensures continuity of care and fosters a learning environment. Applicants are required to have a demonstrated knowledge,





understanding and commitment to this care philosophy.

Under the general direction of the Director ‑ Supportive Care Program the Lodge Attendant is responsible for ensuring a pleasant, safe and welcoming atmosphere in the Lodge.

Qualifications:

- Minimum Grade 12 Education, with a medical related background
- Ability to interact effective with patients, the public and other departments within the Northwestern Ontario

Regional Cancer Centre
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in a similar lodge‑type setting that provides temporary room

and board for seriously ill medical patients (e.g., cancer, renal, cardiac care)
- Must be fluent in English and French, verbal and written, to meet the needs of the clients we serve

Duties & Responsibilities:

- To welcome and orientate new residents (cancer patients and their companions) to the Lodge and, when there are

no beds available in the Lodge, make arrangements for patients to stay in a hotel (i.e., place phone call, forward confirming fax to receiving hotel, arrange transportation)
- To be available to residents, spending time visiting with them, facilitating a warm, kind, nurturing setting, and

for being a compassionate and sensitive listener to people residing at the Lodge
- To arrange and confirm, daily, the need for meals to be delivered (lunch and supper) and to be responsible for

handling the purchasing of these meals
- To keep accurate records of the number of patients and companions that are staying at the Lodge each day
- To fax prescriptions slips to pharmacies in order for residents to have medications delivered
- Homemaking,



bookkeeping and general up‑keeping duties are expected, and to take on other tasks and duties as

may be required Salary Range: $26.915 to 27.366

As a proposed designated position under the French Language Policy (HR‑esa‑12) Level 2 ‑ French

Language Skills according to Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre's Oral Proficiency Scale are required.
