The Maintenance Manager reports to the General Manager and performs general, routine maintenance and servicing operations throughout the facility, in accordance with applicable codes and regulations and as directed by the General Manager.

Responsibilities
- Oversee and execute all aspects of the Maintenance department, as directed and in accordance with applicable codes and regulations; perform a variety of routine maintenance, servicing, and repair operations to maintain the home, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds in proper condition.
- Schedule and supervise maintenance and repair work not completed in-house.
- Manage ongoing maintenance requirements and carry out preventative maintenance programs as directed.
- Notify the General Manager of significant building/equipment malfunctions
- Coordinate specialized work (e.g., electrical or plumbing) to skilled trades/outside contractors and monitor work performed
- Conduct regular maintenance rounds to ensure life safety and building and support systems are functioning properly
- Implement and monitor quality improvement
- Participate in budget preparation and control
- Promote a person-centered approach while maintaining the organization’s policies and procedures
- Display a positive, adaptive attitude and positive interactions with people
- Presents a positive approach, avoiding controlling language and actions toward people
- Maintain inventories and ensure protected storage of all supplies
- Participate in committee meetings such as infection control, quality management, and safety, as required
- Complete performance appraisals of associates as required
- Provide ongoing associate education
- Maintain staffing schedules as applicable
- Promote the vision, mission, values, and the Residents’ Bill of Rights
- Supervise fire prevention and fire drill procedures
- Be a Certified Joint Health and Safety Member and participate in inspections and meetings as part of that role
- Any and all other tasks as assigned
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma preferred
- Two (2) years experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity preferred
- Experience in general maintenance and repair
- Ability to lead a team by setting an example in a direct and positive manner
- Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing and carpentry
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Skilled in conflict management techniques
- Previous employment in a health care/hospitality setting is an asset
- Demonstrated understanding of/empathy for the needs of seniors
- Demonstrated experience in managing a budget
- Familiar with Employment Standards Act, Workers’ Compensation Act, Retirement Homes Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen (no older than 6 months), TB test results from less than 6 months old, and three supervisory references
