JOB SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Worker 5 is an integral member of the Menno Place team and is required to have a commitment to the vision, mission, and values of Menno Place. In performing duties, Maintenance Worker 5 will follow Menno Place policies and procedures ensuring the provision of Resident and Family Centered Care (RFCC) while safeguarding staff and residents.

This position requires teamwork, communication, and cooperation. It is the expectation that the individual in this position contributes to a positive, safe working environment, takes instruction well and cooperates with their supervisor and co-workers. This person manages their time well and participates in continuous quality improvement of services provided.

Under the general direction of the Facilities and Housekeeping Services Manager, and in keeping with the Mennonite Benevolent Society (MBS) Vision, Mission, Commitment and the MBS Board and Administration Statement of Direction, performs maintenance and repairs to the buildings and equipment/systems and assists with the receiving and shipping and distribution of Hospital supplies.

We are looking for an individual that is experienced with renovations.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Install/change/extend and repair plumbing fixtures and systems such as: traps, taps, sinks, toilets, water valves and domestic hot/cold water/heating system and waste lines.
2. Install/change/extend and repair electrical fixtures/appliances and equipment such as: electrical motors, commercial washers/dryers, relays/contractors, ballast, appliances, circuit breakers, receptacles/fire alarm smoke detectors and alarm systems.
3. Maintain/repair medicinal apparatus such as: hydraulic lifts, wheelchairs, conveyors. Replace bearings/seals, drive units.
4. Constructs items such as: walls, doors, floors, ceilings and windows by framing and applying finishing materials like: drywall, wood and vinyl panelling, floor coverings.



Designs and constructs furniture such as: desks, tables, cupboards, shelving units.
5. Performs plastering, painting and decorating by selecting and applying a variety of paints, plaster and wall coverings.
6. Maintains the exterior building and grounds such as: window cleaning, pressure washing, grass cutting, cleaning gutters/drains, and collects and disposes of garbage/recycle material.
7. Supervises Maintenance Workers and other designated staff by such as: coordinating work assignments, evaluating employee performance and determining related training/orientation requirements.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training and Experience

- Grade 10 plus two year’s recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.

- Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills, and knows the facility fire and disaster plan.

Job Type: Casual Pay: $30.27 per hour
