Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A part-time academic is required to teach HIST 1505.03 A Global History of Capitalism in the Winter 2027 Term (1 January to 31 May, 2027).

Course description

In this global history of capitalism, we will follow the historical, intellectual, and economic threads that gave rise to a global system of political economy that has been a central feature and condition for global history over the last four hundred years. We will dip deeper into history to understand some of the antecedents of capitalism, but the bulk of our work is to understand how the rise of modern capitalism is grounded in the rise of corporations, slavery, indentureship, forced gendered divisions of labour, ecological destruction and the curious historical phenomenon of convincing people that alternatives to capitalism are somehow impractical.

The classes are currently scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays at 14:30-16:00.

The part-time academic is responsible for all aspects of teaching, grading and administration of the classes. In addition, the part-time academic is to be available for two hours per week outside of class time for student consultation. The part-time academic reports to the Chair of the History Department.
