Position Details Position Information Position Title Part-Time Academic (PUAD 5201: Professional Development) - Fall 2026 Posting Number PTAP3523P Department/Unit Public & International Affairs Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities A Part-Time Academic is needed to teach the following course from September to December 2026.

Class

Is currently scheduled for 11:30 am – 2:30 pm on Mondays. The course is delivered in-person. PUAD 5201 is the first of the PD courses and is designed to mirror the way organizations operate with respect to behavioral and technical competency and skill development.

The course aims to develop within graduate students the desire for lifelong professional development as a means to serve their employer, the public, their communities and to enhance their professional careers. The relationship between our PD courses and our experiential learning opportunities (internships and practicums) is an important one. The professional development focus of 5201 is introductory and intended to support students as they consider various career paths, engage in the process through which they can secure an Internship or Practicum and prepare for making the most of these experiences.

The Part-Time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including lectures and evaluation. The part-time academic should be available for a three-hour lecture and two hours per week for consultation with students. Additional meetings with the MPA program office may be required (approximately 1.5 hour / month).





The part-time academic reports to Dr.

Markus

Sharaput, the MPA Program Director. Qualifications/Requirements Of Position A graduate degree in public administration / management is required. The successful applicant must have demonstrated knowledge of the subject matter, practice, experience and record of effective teaching experience.

Because of the critical linkages between this course and the Internship, experience with experiential learning in post-secondary is essential; preference will be given to applicants with direct experience of the Dalhousie PD and Internship programs. Excellent oral / written and presentation skills are required.

Considering the nature of this course, skilled work experience in industry is strongly considered an asset. The successful applicant must be able to incorporate perspectives / themes from public organizations / public sector in the classroom.

Salary Range/Pay Rate $8,260 per course (In accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement) Additional Information All offers of employment as a Part-Time Academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.
