Company Overview
We are an expanding community pharmacy and wellness centre providing prescription services, medication management support, over-the-counter healthcare products, and a specialized supplement and wellness retail section. We are currently seeking an experienced Pharmacy Technical Assistant who can contribute to both pharmacy operations and the supplement retail division in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Position Summary The Pharmacy Technical Assistant will support pharmacists in the daily technical and administrative operations of the pharmacy while also assisting customers with health and wellness product selection within the supplement retail section. The ideal candidate will possess strong pharmacy workflow knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and at least two years of relevant experience in a community pharmacy setting.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate patient medication records while ensuring confidentiality and privacy standards are consistently followed
- Assist customers with over-the-counter medications, vitamins, supplements, and wellness products under pharmacist supervision
- Support pharmacists and pharmacy staff with the preparation, packaging, labeling, and compounding of prescription medications and pharmaceutical products
- Receive, organize, and rotate pharmacy inventory while monitoring stock levels and expiry dates of medications and wellness products
- Process prescription billing, insurance claims,
and other third-party payment transactions accurately
- Review prescriptions for completeness and verify that all required information is entered correctly before pharmacist verification
- Label, stock, and merchandise pharmaceutical and supplement products on retail shelves and displays
- Prepare oral compounds, topical creams, and ointments according to pharmacy procedures and professional standards
- Operate point-of-sale systems and process customer purchases and transactions efficiently
- Enter patient profiles, prescription information, and medication data into computerized pharmacy management systems
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards within the dispensary and retail areas
- Assist with prescription refill coordination and communicate with healthcare providers or physicians’ offices when required
- Support the daily dispensary workflow to ensure timely and efficient pharmacy operations
- Deliver professional customer service by responding to pharmacy and wellness-related inquiries
- Follow pharmacy operational policies, workplace safety procedures, and applicable regulatory guidelines
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of secondary school is required
- Pharmacy Assistant or Pharmacy Technical Assistant training is considered an asset
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a retail or community pharmacy setting preferred
- Experience working with pharmacy software systems and third-party billing
- Knowledge of vitamins, supplements, and wellness products is an asset
- Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work efficiently in a high-volume environment
- Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities independently
