Position Summary

Alpha Construction NT Ltd. is looking for an experienced Plumber / Oil Burner Mechanic to join our growing team in Norman Wells, NT.

This position is ideal for a motivated tradesperson who enjoys working independently and takes pride in providing quality service. The successful candidate will be responsible for servicing and repairing oil-fired boilers and furnaces, maintaining hydronic heating systems, performing plumbing repairs and installations, and responding to emergency service calls throughout the winter months.

Key Responsibilities

- Service, diagnose, repair, and maintain oil-fired boilers, furnaces, and burners.
- Perform annual preventative maintenance on residential and commercial heating systems.
- Troubleshoot and repair no-heat calls, boiler failures, furnace breakdowns, and heating controls.
- Repair and replace circulator pumps, expansion tanks, fuel pumps, motors, thermostats, aquastats, valves, piping, and related heating components.
- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, fixtures, water heaters, pumps, drains, and water distribution systems.
- Complete service reports, work orders, and customer documentation accurately.
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, and service inventory.




- Participate in an on-call rotation during the heating season.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with applicable codes and company standards.
- Deliver professional, courteous customer service on every job.

Qualifications
- Journeyperson Plumber and/or Oil Burner Mechanic certification.
- Experience servicing oil-fired heating equipment.
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of hydronic heating systems.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Physically capable of performing service work in residential, commercial, and industrial settings.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in northern or remote communities.
- Commercial boiler experience.
- Experience with heating controls and pumps.
- Refrigeration, gas fitting, or electrical experience is considered an asset.
- Current safety certifications (WHMIS, First Aid/CPR, H2S Alive, Fall Protection, Confined Space) are considered an asset.
