Powerline Technician Apprentice
CONSTRUCTION & MAINTENANCE
- Erect and maintain steel, wood, or concrete poles, towers, and guy wires
- Install, maintain, and repair overhead and underground power lines and cables, insulators,
conductors, lightning arrestors, switches, transformers, street lighting, and associated equipment
- Splice, solder, and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution and
transmission networks
- Apply knowledge of construction, maintenance, and repair of distribution and transmission power
systems; follow instructions and procedures
- Open and close switches and install grounding devices on lines and equipment
- Climb poles and/or operate bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators, or hardware; install and
repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, terminations, and pedestals
- Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment (transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses,
insulators) using hand tools and mechanical devices
- Use insulated tooling or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work
SAFETY
- Knowledge of trade safety practices and procedures
- Adhere to and enforce all company-specific and industry-specific safety regulations
- Recognize, assess, and address potentially hazardous situations in the work workplace
- Participate in morning tailboards with the entire crew present
- Read and understand the scope of construction prints provided
- Instruct, mentor, and train junior personnel and apprentices in duties, safe work practices, and the
care and use of tools and equipment
- Recognize and report incidents, potential hazards, injuries, or concerns to your supervisor
immediately
- Ability to work at heights on wood poles, steel towers, and similar structures in adverse weather
conditions
REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 English or French
- Grade 12 Mathematics
- Valid Class G Driver's Licence
- Selected candidate will be required to sign up for IBEW membership
