DNV Power Systems’ Advisory group is seeking a Principal Power System Engineer with a focus on EMT Studies in the Renewables & Power Grids group.
The Principal
Engineer must demonstrate vision and drive, contribute to the growth and evolution of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America, manage commercial projects, deliver technical insight, and delight customers with excellent service. This role ideally will be based at our DNV office in Toronto (ON) or Montreal (QB), presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site. Coordinate, plan, and resource multiple projects, ensuring timely completion and adherence to budgetary constraints.
Coordinate EMT projects to ensure alignment with overarching business goals and client objectives. Work in collaboration with department leadership on projects and programs, including those you undertake. Promote, monitor, and ensure that the team's work meets DNV's quality standards and best practices.
Author, review, or approve project proposals and deliverables. Participate in continuous improvement efforts including tool development, process refinement, digitization efforts, and lessons learned activities. Develop a deep understanding of specific client needs, expectations, and challenges, particularly with key accounts utilizing onshore wind, offshore wind, solar, battery storage, transmission line, and other technologies.
Bring greater standardization to how we contextualize risk in a way that our customers and internal experts can digest.
Technical Expertise
Maintain and continually enhance deep domain knowledge in the Electro‑magnetic Transient (EMT) Studies such as sub‑synchronous resonance (SSR), control interaction (SSCI), ferro‑resonance, temporary overvoltage (TOV), switching overvoltage (SOV), transient recovery voltage (TRV), harmonic, energization, small‑signal and large‑signal control stability, etc. Hands‑one experience with PSCAD software. Identify synergies for customers when working on combining onshore/offshore wind, solar, battery storage, and transmission line technologies.
Engage in networking and relationship‑building activities focusing on strategic clients. Author, review, and/or approve project proposals keeping in mind departmental goals and customer requirements. estimation, construction, development, origination, consulting, project management, technology, asset management, or finance Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and collaborate with clients and team members on project schedules, budgets, and deliverables Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time You must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to rent and drive a car and travel on public transport when required Excellent oral and written communications skills in English (The employee would be required to draft and review internal documents in English to be used throughout North America) Considering that this position requires English proficiency, the recruitment process will be conducted in English.
