Principal Process Development Engineer – Bioprocessing & Mechanistic Modelling

We are seeking a Senior Process Development Engineer with experience in bioprocess development, process optimization, and data-driven engineering to help advance next-generation manufacturing solutions. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong process engineering fundamentals with experience analyzing complex manufacturing systems and improving production performance.

You will work with engineering and operations teams to understand process challenges, analyze experimental and production data, and develop solutions that improve process efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and optimize bioprocess manufacturing workflows, including upstream and downstream processes.
- Analyze process performance data to identify bottlenecks, improvement opportunities, and optimization strategies.
- Apply statistical methods, Design of Experiments (DoE), and process characterization techniques to improve manufacturing outcomes.
- Build and apply engineering models to understand process behavior and support decision-making.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including process engineers, scientists, data scientists, and manufacturing stakeholders.
- Translate complex technical challenges into practical solutions that improve production performance.
- Support the development of advanced modelling and digital tools for industrial manufacturing applications.

Ideal Background





- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience in process development within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of process optimization, scale-up, and manufacturing operations.
- Experience with DoE, statistical analysis, and experimental design.
- Familiarity with mechanistic modelling, first-principles modelling, process simulation, or energetic modelling is highly desirable.
- Experience working with complex biological or chemical processes is an asset.

Preferred Experience

- Developing models to describe process behavior using mass balances, kinetics, or engineering principles.
- Experience with process simulation, digital twins, or data-driven manufacturing platforms.
- Ability to bridge experimental data with engineering models to improve industrial processes.
- Experience using Python or similar tools for analysis, modelling, or automation
- Ability to work with operational and process data
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Problem-solving mindset with experience driving technical or operational improvements
- Experience working in cross-functional technical teams
- Experience with Aspen, Python or related modelling tools for mechanistic modelling
- Experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing execution systems (MES)
- Experience in first-principles modelling, dynamic simulation, kinetic modelling, reaction, differential equation modelling, parameter estimation, model calibration
- Tools: MATLAB, gPROMS, Modelica, COMSOL, CFD
