Would you like to make a difference in someone's life...

A young woman with Down syndrome is looking for P/T FEMALE support person(S) to assist her in her daily life, some evenings and weekends.

She is employed at the YMCA and requires your support in this role; you will need to provide a background check with a vulnerable sector. Training is required and completed online. You will work closely with the staff and her supervisors.

She would also like you’re your support working out in the gym, in the pool and in her favourite fitness classes. She continues to volunteer several hours a week and requires support in this role as well.

She volunteers with a local theatre company and as a Teaching assistant during some schedule PD days and evening Drama classes. You will work closely with the educational coordinator and staff.

She is an actor and auditions throughout the year, and you will work closely with her acting and vocal coach.

She is continuing her education and will be taking classes at the University of Lethbridge.

She also requires some in-home support and community support, running errands, shopping and enjoying her leisure time which is self-determined.

Her interests include bowling, basketball, swimming, music, the movies, live theatre, and karaoke.

You will work closely with her family to implement daily schedules, create goals and monitor outcomes with the intention to build independence and cultivate social networks.

Your responsibilities (include but aren’t limited to):

To assist, support and encourage goal driven activities in the home, including:

· personal self-care,

· home care management,

· personal growth and development,

· physical and mental health,





· budgeting and money management.

Provide support to access community through a variety of goal related activities to build social networks, build skill set, gain confidence and independence while working and volunteering, and meaningfully participating in a variety of leisure and recreational activities.

Qualifications/skills:

Post-secondary education and/or experience in community and/or disability services, and/or the Child and Youth sector, and Education will first be considered.

Excellent communication skills; written, verbal and listening.

Be patient, empathetic, outgoing, innovative, adaptable, work well independently, have solid leadership skills, be resilient, able to problem solve, experience advocating for others, and a strong understanding of modelling, coaching and positive reinforcement.

Hours are P/T, casual and permanent with some evenings and Saturdays.

· Valid driver’s license and a clean drivers abstract.

· Recent background checks including vulnerable sector.

· Minimum 3 professional references.
