Alberta Regional Caribou Knowledge Partnership (ARCKP)

Edmonton

About the ARCKP The Alberta Regional Caribou Knowledge Partnership (ARCKP) is a collaborative partnership between the Alberta forest industry and the Government of Alberta (GoA). The ARCKP works to address region-specific knowledge gaps at the intersection of woodland caribou conservation and forest management and is funded through the Forest Resource Improvement Association of Alberta (FRIAA) with the support of 12 forestry companies and the GoA. The ARCKP is governed by a Steering Committee of government and industry representatives, supported by a Technical Subcommittee and a Program Manager.

The partnership works with a broad stakeholder network to identify key knowledge gaps and advance practical, on-the-ground solutions for both the forest sector and caribou conservation.

To learn more visit: www.arckp.ca Vision: A collaboration promoting self-sustaining caribou populations and a viable forest sector.

Mission: We support the development and sharing of innovative tools, techniques, strategies, and understandable scientific knowledge to enhance sustainable forest management and caribou recovery efforts.

The Opportunity The ARCKP is seeking a Program Manager to manage the day-to-day operations of the partnership and provide facilitation, coordination, and administrative support to the Steering Committee. This is a contractor role managed through Fuse Consulting Ltd., at 0.8 to 1.0 FTE depending on workload and seasonality. This role sits at the centre of a complex, high-functioning partnership between government and industry.

The Program

Manager is not required to be a subject-matter expert or a decision-maker — they are a facilitator and coordinator who earns trust from both sides of the partnership by being balanced in their own views and by having a passion for keeping the organization moving forward. The successful candidate will have a discerning ability to determine which operational decisions can be made individually to keep the organization progressing efficiently, while advancing recommendations on strategic level decisions to the Steering Committee. If you have spent your career helping advance large scale programs while navigating politically complex, multi-stakeholder environments and you find that kind of work genuinely energizing — we want to hear from you.

What You'll Do Facilitation and Partnership Management Plan and facilitate Steering Committee and Technical Subcommittee meetings, including developing clear agendas, preparing decision-support materials, and synthesizing outcomes into concise summaries. Hold space for productive conversation between government and industry partners — recognizing when tension is present, slowing things down when needed, and guiding the group back to its own processes and Terms of Reference. Manage relationships with a broad stakeholder network, including researchers, project leads, and partner organizations.

Respond to partner requests and inquiries clearly and efficiently, respecting participants' time.

Plan and host an annual workshop that brings the partnership together alongside project leads to advance key ideas and applications emerging from ARCKP funded work. Program and Project Coordination Oversee the ARCKP's active project portfolio, including tracking milestones, following up on deliverables, and flagging issues to the Steering Committee when needed.

Coordinate expression of interest and proposal processes for new research funding, including communications with applicants and coordination of review processes. Support knowledge exchange activities, including hosting webinars and overseeing the development of The Exchange, research notes, e-newsletters, and other communication products. Manage and monitor ARCKP's social media presence, including creating and scheduling content, posting updates on platforms such as LinkedIn, tracking engagement metrics, and supporting broader communications and knowledge exchange objectives.

Coordinate and schedule meetings, including preparing agendas, circulating meeting materials, recording and distributing minutes, and tracking follow-up actions.

Maintain organized records, correspondence, and documentation for the partnership.

Financial Administration

Produce timely and accurate financial summaries and multi-year forecasts for Steering Committee review. Track program expenditures, maintain a clear picture of budget status across active projects, and flag variances proactively. Liaise with fRI Research, FRIAA and partner organizations on financial reporting, building supplementary tracking tools where needed to ensure clarity.

What We're Looking For Required Approximately 10 years of relevant professional experience, ideally in multi-stakeholder facilitation, partnership coordination, or program management in a politically or technically complex environment.

Strong synthesis and communication skills: you produce clear, well-prepared meeting materials and briefs that let decision-makers act quickly and confidently. Demonstrated facilitation skills, with a track record of managing diverse — and at times competing — stakeholder interests fairly and effectively.

Proven program management skills: you naturally know how to keep initiatives organized, scheduled and moving efficiently to ensure a programs mandate is achieved.

Financial and administrative competency: you can build and maintain a budget-tracking system, produce multi-year forecasts, and present financial information clearly to a non-technical audience.

Conflict management ability: you can recognize tension in a room even when it is not explicitly stated,

create space for difficult conversations, and bring groups back to their own processes without taking sides. Comfort operating without final decision-making authority: you are comfortable escalating higher-level decisions to the Steering Committee rather than resolving them independently. Preferred (but not required) Familiarity with natural resource management, environmental policy, or a related field.

Experience in other politically complex sectors — energy, agriculture, environment — is equally welcomed. What matters most is the ability to get up to speed quickly and ask smart questions.

Experience working across government and industry stakeholders on the same file.

Experience managing groups governed by a formal Terms of Reference or similar governance structure. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications and cloud-based document management systems (e.g., OneDrive and SharePoint), including experience organizing shared files, coordinating document reviews, and supporting cooperative workflows.

Experience planning, hosting, and supporting virtual events and webinars using platforms such as Zoom Webinar and Microsoft Teams Webinar, including coordinating presenters, moderating participant engagement, and troubleshooting basic technical issues.

Experience using email marketing and mass communication platforms such as Mailchimp or similar systems, including managing distribution lists, creating and scheduling campaigns, tracking engagement metrics, and supporting stakeholder communications.

Experience managing organizational social media accounts, particularly LinkedIn, including developing content, scheduling posts, monitoring engagement, and supporting communications, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge-sharing objectives.
