Position Overview
The Pup Room Monitor is responsible for overseeing the dedicated pet play and human pup space at the convention. This role blends safety, hospitality, and community engagement to ensure the room remains a clean, welcoming, and safe environment for pups, handlers, and curious onlookers alike. You will serve as the guardian of the space –keeping it organized, ensuring convention and space rules are respected, and fostering an inclusive, high-energy atmosphere. Time Commitment
- Year-round: None
- As convention approaches: Attend online staff meetings and trainings when requested
- Convention weekend: On-site presence is required with flexible hours. Must plan to work the minimum volunteer hour requirement posted on the website
- Pre and post-convention: On-site presence is required to assist with setup and teardown activities the day before and the day after the event
Key Responsibilities
Your shift will focus on maintaining a safe, sanitary, and lively environment through the following duties:
- Room Supervision & Rule Enforcement: Monitor the entire space to ensure activities remain safe, consensual, and appropriate. You are responsible for strictly enforcing the convention's code of conduct and ensuring that no sexual activity occurs in the space
- Asset Protection (Toy Tracking): Keep an eye on the room's shared toys, mats, and gear, making sure that these items remain inside the designated Pup Room for everyone to enjoy
- Sanitization & Presentation: Regularly check the room to ensure it stays clean, presentable, and hygienic. This includes wiping down high-touch items, organizing mats, and disposing of trash
- Community Engagement: Create a warm, friendly, and inviting workplace. Actively greet newcomers, answer basic questions about the space, and help introverted pups or handlers feel included
- Incident Escalation: Address minor rule infractions politely but firmly, and immediately notify Convention Safety or Leadership if any major conflicts or policy violations arise.
Qualifications
Required
- Punctuality:
Strict adherence to shift times to ensure the room is never left unmonitored during operational hours
- Community Passion: A genuine understanding, respect, and love for human puppy play and the broader pet play community
- Positive Attitude & Work Ethic: A strong willingness to work, help out where needed, and maintain an upbeat, cooperative demeanor
- Boundary Enforcement: The confidence to politely but firmly enforce space rules and intervene if behavior crosses the line into inappropriate or sexual activity
Preferred
- Active Community Member: Someone who personally participates in or enjoys pet play, providing them with firsthand knowledge of the space's dynamics
- Outgoing Personality: An extroverted, conversational individual who is excited to meet, greet, and talk to new people throughout their shift
- Crowd or Space Monitoring Experience: Previous experience volunteering as a room monitor, den guard, or safety volunteer at similar community events
