Background The College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC) is a regulatory body in British Columbia that regulates the practice of medicine under the authority of provincial law. All physicians and surgeons who practise medicine in British Columbia must be licensed by CPSBC. We protect the public by ensuring physicians and surgeons meet expected standards of practice and conduct.

This position will be part of CPSBC’s records, information and privacy department and will specifically work on processing and appraising the CPSBC historical library collection.

Position summary

This position will be part of CPSBC’s records, information and privacy department and will specifically work on processing and appraising the CPSBC historical library collection.

CPSBC is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist the records, information and privacy department with the processing of the historical library collection from August/September 2026 until December 2026. The successful candidate will work primarily with the records analyst.

This position will provide a qualified individual with an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the regulatory field while receiving valuable on-the-job training, mentorship, and the opportunity to develop their information management skills and knowledge of professional regulation.

Duties and responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to the following: using the CPSBC appraisal policy,



review the collection to identify materials for archival or financial value where no CPSBC specific value is evident, research and source alternative custodians for materials create a tracking sheet to record recommended outcomes for materials review resources (card catalogue/historical book listing) for information that may support decision-making assess physical collection for damage, repairs or preservation opportunities accession materials with archival value into CPSBC archives potentially prepare display or informational materials for interesting pieces in the collection Skills and qualifications

Required skills and qualifications include: first or second year student working towards, or recent graduate of, a Master of Archival Studies or a Master of Library Science or a Master of Library and Information Studies degree or equivalent robust academic achievement well-developed analytical skills—both quantitative and qualitative excellent organizational and problem-solving skills as well as attention to detail highly effective written and oral communication skills multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize workload good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS Teams The compensation for this position is $25.00 per hour plus 6% in lieu of vacation entitlements. This position will be required to be on site.
