Job Title: Senior MS SQL Database Developer

Position Type: Contract (Long-term)

Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior MS SQL Database Developer with strong hands-on experience in SQL Server development, performance tuning, and data modeling. The role requires a developer mindset (not DBA), focusing on building scalable, high-performance database solutions in a Capital Markets / Banking environment.

Key Responsibilities

- Design and develop robust MS SQL Server database solutions

- Write and optimize complex T‑SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions

- Perform query tuning, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis for performance optimization

- Develop and maintain data models (logical & physical) for enterprise applications

- Work with high-volume datasets and low-latency systems

- Implement caching strategies (MemSQL, Apache Ignite, or similar) to improve performance

- Develop Linux shell scripts for automation and data workflows

- Collaborate with application teams, business analysts, and stakeholders

- Ensure data integrity, scalability, and reliability across systems





Required Skills & Experience

- 10+ years of experience in MS SQL Server Development

- Strong expertise in:

- T‑SQL (advanced queries, stored procedures, functions)

- Performance tuning & query optimization

- Indexing strategies & execution plans

- Hands-on experience in data modeling and database design

- Experience with caching technologies (MemSQL, Apache Ignite, etc.) - highly preferred

- Solid knowledge of Linux scripting (Bash/Shell)

- Experience working in Capital Markets or Banking domain (preferred)

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

- Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Nice to Have

- Experience with low-latency or real‑time data systems

- Exposure to distributed caching or in‑memory databases

- Familiarity with large‑scale enterprise data platforms

Additional Information

- Must be local to Montreal or Halifax

- Hybrid model - 3 days onsite mandatory

- Looking for a hands‑on developer, not a DBA
