About the role Binnie is seeking an experienced Senior Land Surveyor to join our dynamic team in Victoria, British Columbia. What you'll do
- Lead and manage land surveying projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
- Conduct detailed field surveys using advanced surveying equipment and techniques, including GPS, total stations, and drones.
- Prepare and review survey plans, reports, and legal documents, ensuring compliance with local regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and other professionals to provide accurate survey data for design and construction purposes.
- Mentor and train junior surveyors and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Utilize CAD software to create precise drawings and maps that reflect survey findings and project specifications.
- Conduct boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking to support various civil engineering projects.
- Perform quality control checks on survey data and deliverables to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Liaise with clients and stakeholders to address any concerns or questions regarding survey processes and outcomes.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance surveying methodologies and improve project efficiency.
- Prepare cost estimates and proposals for surveying services, contributing to business development efforts.
- Participate in site meetings and inspections to ensure that surveying work aligns with project goals and specifications.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in land surveying, with a robust background in both fieldwork and office-based tasks.
- A degree in Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field, along with relevant certifications (e.g., P.Eng., P.L.S.).
- Proficiency in using surveying equipment and software, including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and GIS applications.
- Strong understanding of land surveying principles, legal aspects, and local regulations in British Columbia.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
Nice to have
- Experience with advanced surveying technologies such as LiDAR and photogrammetry.
- Familiarity with project management software and methodologies.
- Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role within a surveying team.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations and sustainable practices in land development.

- Advanced proficiency in surveying instruments (GPS, total stations, levels) and data collection techniques.
- Expertise in CAD and GIS software for drafting and mapping purposes.
