SENIOR WRITER & STORYTELLER

(FULL-TIME, 12-MONTH CONTRACT) Salary Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually Vacancy Status: Parental leave coverage THE OPPORTUNITY

Stories shape how people see places.

At Toronto Global, we help ambitious companies from around the world choose the Toronto Region for their next investment. Every investment creates jobs, strengthens our economy and changes the trajectory of the region.

That work begins with a story.

We're looking for an exceptional writer who can uncover those stories, tell them beautifully and help shape how the world understands one of North America's most energetic regions.

Think of this less as a traditional communications position, and more as a creative role inside a small, ambitious marketing team that believes ideas, writing and design can change perceptions.

WHO WE ARE Toronto Global brings world-class international investment to the GTA to create jobs and strengthen the economy. We do it by telling the Toronto Region story and proactively pursuing global companies and supporting every stage of their journey, from first outreach to final decision. Our team is small enough that every person has a meaningful impact, but ambitious enough to produce work that reaches global audiences.

We care deeply about craft. We debate headlines. We rewrite opening paragraphs. We believe good editing is an act of generosity. Above all, we approach content collaboratively, move quickly and hold a high bar for the work we put into the world.

A TYPICAL WEEK MIGHT INCLUDE

Interviewing the founder of an AI company that has chosen Toronto for its North American expansion.

Helping our CEO prepare a keynote, LinkedIn article or media interview.

Writing a long-form feature for our website.

Working with designers and videographers to create a short documentary.

Turning economic research into social content that makes people care.

Brainstorming new ways to tell the Toronto Region story across digital, social and video. WHAT YOU'LL CREATE Long-form editorial stories

Executive speeches and thought leadership

Website and campaign copy

Video scripts

Social content

Investor-facing marketing materials

Messaging frameworks for major initiatives WHAT YOU WON'T BE DOING

You won't spend your days pushing paper through endless approval chains.

You won't be measured by how many press releases you publish.

You won't simply maintain an editorial calendar.

You won’t write boilerplate copy for social channels.

You will spend your time finding stories, asking smart questions and producing work that helps shape Toronto's global reputation. YOU'RE PROBABLY A FIT IF...

You are an exceptional writer with a portfolio that demonstrates range and judgment.

You love interviewing people because you're genuinely curious.

You can make complex subjects clear without making them simplistic.

You know how to adapt your voice across audiences while preserving authenticity.

You enjoy editing almost as much as writing.

You thrive on feedback and collaborative creative work.

You have strong editorial instincts and obsessive attention to detail. YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Approximately 5-7 years of experience in journalism, communications, content marketing or a related field.

Degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or equivalent experience.

Experience writing for executives or senior leaders is an asset.

Experience with digital, social and video storytelling.

Interest in international business, innovation, and technology. HOW TO APPLY

Please email your resume, cover letter, along with two or three examples of your strongest writing to [email protected] by August 17, 2026. Writing samples might include articles, speeches, web copy, campaign work or other pieces that demonstrate how you think and write.

We're much more interested in the quality of your work than whether you've worked in economic development before. A FINAL NOTE

We encourage women, racialized people, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ2S+ community, and other equity-deserving groups to apply. Accommodations are available at all stages of the recruitment process upon request for applicants with accessibility needs. As a modern employer, we use select AI tools responsibly to support, not replace, thoughtful human-led decision making in our search for talent.

If you're the kind of person who quietly rewrites headlines while reading the news, who asks one more question during an interview because you know that's where the real story lives, and who believes words can genuinely change how people see a place, we'd love to hear from you.
