SALARY
$18.25 per hour + 14% in lieu of benefits = $20.80 per hour (JB02 & JB03)
$22.83 per hour + 14% in lieu of benefits = $26.02 per hour (JB05)

HOURS OF WORK
Hours vary; Wednesdays from 4PM to 7PM, Fridays from 2PM to 4PM, and Saturdays from 12PM to 4PM. Successful applicants must be available to consistently work one or two of the lesson days per week. Other shifts may become available to support operational needs.

Position Overview
We’re looking for multiple, positive, and flexible arena workers to join the team at the Juan de Fuca Arena Skate Shop. Our staff work in a fun and friendly team environment in an arena setting where growth and encouragement are part of our everyday schedules. You will learn to teach children how to skate, and watch them progress into confident skaters.
You will work on and off the ice with a wide range of age groups to gain valuable recent skills and knowledge, while maintaining and role modelling an active lifestyle.
In addition to great wages, we offer an additional 14% in pay, per hour, in lieu of benefits; access to counselling; a staff facility pass which provides drop-in access to the weightroom, fitness classes,
skating, pool, as well as the ability to play on our 9-hole golf course.
Job Duties and Accountabilities
- Teaches beginner to intermediate skill levels with a variety of age groups during ice skating lessons.
- Ensures report cards are completed and discusses any issues or concerns with parents regarding lessons.
- Refers sensitive issues to the Skating Team Lead and/or Arena & Events Programmer.
- Ensures the safety of all participants on and off the ice.
- Takes admissions and gives out skate rentals to customers.
- Ensures facility policies, procedures, and regulations are implemented; and ensures the arena is safe.
- Ensures proper documentation is completed for any accidents and incidents.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Experience in providing skating instruction, guidance and encouragement, and the ability to foster an environment encouraging participation.
- Experience with planning and lesson plan creation.
- Communication and organizational skills.
- Proven experience in public relations and in dealing with situations in a positive, courteous, and effective manner.
- Demonstrated ability to work co-operatively in a team environment, as well as to work independently.
- Current Emergency First Aid and CPR C certification is required.
- Inter-municipal Learn to Skate Instructors training and NCCP coaching level 1 in a related discipline is an asset: hockey, skating, ringette, speed skating, or CanFit instructing experience.
