Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band 9, $47.458 to $55.087 (5 step range)

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Brachytherapy Nurse Lead is responsible for providing holistic cancer care to patients over the spectrum of the oncology experience: assessment, intervention, treatment administration and follow-up in the ambulatory setting. The Brachytherapy Nurse Lead will participate in patient/family education, make pertinent nursing assessments, collaborate with the multidisciplinary care team and provide appropriate interventions.

This position reports to the Manager of Systemic Therapy.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

- Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Nursing
- Completion of the Oncology nursing certification CON(C) is an asset
- Current certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)

Experience:

- 3 Years of Brachytherapy nursing experience within the last 5 years.
- Graduate of an advanced nursing specialty program in operating room or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Membership:

- Licensed with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
- Membership in the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology (CANO) an asset
- Membership in Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) an asset

Knowledge and Skills:





- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple diverse stakeholders at all levels of responsibility both within the SCA and externally.
- Demonstrated ability to provide person-centered, trauma informed, culturally secure nursing support.

Advanced patient assessment skills, virtually and in person, with the ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide high quality patient support through appropriate/prescribed technical, therapeutic and safety interventions.

- Demonstrated ability to monitor sedated patients and perform necessary checks.
- Understands the nursing process and principles of adult learning.
- Demonstrated skill in teaching staff.
- Ability to interpret detailed information and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Communication skills are required to develop and present complex information including written documentation and verbal presentations.
- Initiative and independent judgment required to solve complex problems
- Ability to integrate relevant evidence-based best practice as standard performance.
- Ability to effectively analyze information, problems, situations, practices or procedures.
- Ability to teach and present information effectively to persons over whom the incumbent may have no direct authority.
- Requires high-level skills in human relations to develop formal and trusted relationships with patients to navigate them effectively within the provincial health system and provide in-depth counselling and support.
- Demonstrated leadership skills required to lead Agency projects/committees.
- Ability to manage, prioritize and troubleshoot multiple tasks in various stages of completion.
- Ability to implement change and evaluate program, practice/direction.
- Competent in the use of computers and Microsoft applications.
- Maintains confidentiality.
