The Business Development Manager leads and coordinates commercial CDMO business activities, including research, marketing, sales planning, prospecting, relationship building, quoting, and securing contracts, for the purpose of expanding revenue-generating opportunities and partnerships for Boreal Biomanufacturing’s cell and virus biotherapeutics manufacturing operations. Working closely with the management team and scientific subject matter experts, the Business Development manager will help to execute Boreal’s business growth strategy and unlock new partnerships through trusted networks, market insights, and senior-level engagement.
Basic Requirements (Education/Experience)
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemical/biomedical engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 5-7 years of relevant scientific and business development experience, preferably within biopharmaceutical, biomanufacturing, CDMO, or life sciences environments.
- Working knowledge of GMP-regulated environments, quality systems, and regulatory expectations relevant to biologics manufacturing.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to coordinate internal technical SMEs and external clients or partners.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks such as Health Canada, FDA, or EMA requirements relevant to biologics manufacturing.
- Experience supporting grant-funded projects, research collaborations, or government-funded initiatives.
- Knowledge of quality management systems (QMS) and documentation practices in regulated manufacturing environments.
- In-depth understanding of the sales process from plan to close.
- Experience in proposal development process, business quotes, budgeting, and managing defined timelines.
- Contracting experience including MTAs, CDAs, and MSAs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to influence through a high degree of business acumen and successful position the company’s service offerings.
- Proven proficiency using enterprise CRM platforms to document client interactions, sales stages, and account histories.
- Strong existing network in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industry.
- Willingness to travel (occasionally)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in GMP biologics manufacturing, cell and gene therapy, vaccine manufacturing, or advanced therapeutics environments.
- Advanced degree (M.Sc. or PhD) in life sciences, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemical/biomedical engineering, or a related scientific discipline.
