About the role

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, or designate, the Caseworker will assist in case management and connecting with participants in the community.

What you'll do

Caseworker duties include the following responsibilities:

- Deliver client-oriented programming with a focus on life skill building, emotional regulation and general wellness.
- Provide intensive case management using a client centred approach that is risk reductive and supportive at the client level
- Connect participants to community supports.
- Provide stabilization and crisis support.
- Provide incidental problem solving and emotional support during crisis situations.
- Provide accurate written documentation.
- Role model positive behaviour and encourage and assist participants to practice self-help and non-violent problem-solving skills.
- Perform all other duties as assigned/needed.
- Maintain confidentiality.

Knowledge, Skills and Assets:

- Working knowledge of the Mission, Vision and Values of the John Howard Society of Saskatchewan.
- Working knowledge of the characteristics of disadvantaged persons.
- Working knowledge of Restorative Justice and Harm Reduction practices.

Other Requirements

- The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of providing community-based support to clients in a variety of settings. This position requires the ability to safely lift and carry program supplies, groceries, household items, and, on occasion, furniture as part of daily responsibilities.
- The role involves a combination of standing, walking, sitting, and driving throughout the workday while supporting clients in the community. Candidates must be comfortable climbing stairs multiple times throughout a shift and performing a variety of physical tasks, including housekeeping, vacuuming, mopping, moving light furniture, and other household support activities.

The position also requires the ability to push, pull, bend, crouch, and access storage areas while assisting clients with daily living and recreational activities.

- Seasonal outdoor work, such as yard maintenance and snow removal, is also required. Successful candidates will possess the physical stamina, mobility, and flexibility to safely perform the essential duties of the position while providing quality support to clients in both community and home environments.

Qualifications

Education:





- Secondary education from Saskatchewan Polytechnic or Community Colleges or University Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and/or minimum 1 year of practical experience working with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues including homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare

Practical Experience:

- Working knowledge and experience with individuals impacted by socio-economic issues, including: homelessness, trauma, addiction, mental health, poverty, and the child welfare system.
- Working with a range of diverse clients, indiscriminate of: age, gender, sexual orientation, abilities, socio-economic status, religious preference, etc.

Other:

- First Aid/CPR, ASIST, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, Food Safe would be considered an asset.
- Valid / Insurable Saskatchewan Driver’s License, insurable to drive clients in JHSS-owned vehicles.
- Cleared Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check, completed three (3) months prior to start date.

Capability:

- Computer skills with emphasis on Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
