Photographer / Videographer

I was 18 and the first roll of film I ever shot was a complete disaster. What kept me going? I was deeply intrigued by the idea of composing people and things in that little rectangular viewfinder in a way that could tell a story, communicate a message, explore and express ideas, and impact other people. It was that intrigue that fuelled my desire to become a photographer.

I formally studied at both NSCAD University and NSCC’s photography departments followed by work as a production assistant for shooters in Halifax, Toronto and New York. In 2007, I was ready to venture out and start working under my own name, taking on advertising, editorial, fashion, corporate and private work.

I strongly believe personal work helps strengthen creative and conceptual thinking and is an invaluable and inseparable part of who I am as a photographer. In 2014, I released a body of personal work. The portrait series called ‘State Of Mine’ took seven years to shoot and consisted of 20 photographic portraits.

The series has been exhibited at NSCAD University and at The Sinder Family Gallery. It has also been the subject of a documentary film and has been talked about in The Chronicle Herald, The Coast Weekly, Halifax Magazine and CTV.

The Best Fit

Something that really excites me as a photographer is concept. The act of exploring creative ways to express or communicate an idea in a photograph brings out the excited 18-year-old in me learning photography again.

My best fit is a client who understands that to make a great statement within that frame, you must be willing and excited to think outside of it. Production value is still very important and I take great pride in it, but it is there to support a positive idea.
