Description The Team The BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) contributes to the protection of society by conducting independent, effective and fair prosecutions and appeals at all levels of court and by striving to develop the most effective methods to administer criminal justice in the province. With approximately 550 Crown Counsel located across British Columbia, the BCPS is divided into five regions – North, Interior, Fraser, Vancouver, and Vancouver Island-Powell River.

Criminal

Appeals and Special Prosecutions (CASP) and BCPS Headquarters (HQ) are primarily located in Vancouver and Victoria.

The Role

As a Legal Assistant with the BC Prosecution Service, you will play a key role in supporting Crown Counsel with case preparation for court proceedings. In this quick-paced, high-profile environment, you’ll work closely with a collaborative team, handling a variety of legal services that require flexibility, organization, and excellent communication. Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

- Secondary school graduation or equivalent;
- Successful completion of a recognized Legal Assistant certificate OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience;
- Administrative experience, which may include one or more of the following :

o Office experience working in a confidential capacity;

o Experience managing calendars, scheduling meetings and making travel arrangements;

o Experience typing, drafting, formatting, proofreading and editing a variety of documents;

o Experience establishing and maintaining administrative systems, procedures and standards, such as a bring forward system

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:





- Successful completion of a Legal Assistant or Paralegal certificate or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of administrative experience.
- At least 1 year of recent experience (within the last 3 years) working as a Legal Assistant in a legal office.
- Recent experience (within the last 18 months) working for the BC Prosecution Service.
- Experience working in the criminal justice sector.

About this Position:

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 3 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

This position will be location in either the Richmond, Vancouver, or North Vancouver office. The location will be determined at the time of offer depending on space availability and operational requirements.

An eligibility list may be established to fill both current and/or future permanent or temporary vacancies in Richmond, Vancouver, and North Vancouver.

A Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) and Enhanced Security Screening will be required.
