Construction Safety Officer
Lower Mainland, BC | Full-Time | Site-Based The Opportunity
Rightway Recruitment is currently partnering with a well-established and highly respected mechanical contractor in the Lower Mainland that has been delivering complex construction projects across British Columbia for more than four decades.
Specializing in large-scale residential, commercial, institutional, healthcare, and educational developments, this organization has built a strong reputation for quality workmanship, innovation, and long-term employee retention. With a growing project portfolio and a strong commitment to safety, they are seeking an experienced Construction Safety Officer (CSO) to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a safety professional who enjoys being actively involved on-site, supporting workers, strengthening safety culture, and helping drive continuous improvement across multiple high-profile construction projects.
Key ResponsibilitiesHealth & Safety Program Administration
- Promote and reinforce a positive safety culture across all project sites.
- Support the ongoing development and implementation of Occupational Health & Safety programs.
- Assist with maintaining COR certification requirements and compliance standards.
- Review and recommend improvements to safety policies, procedures, and programs.
- Stay current with WorkSafeBC regulations, legislation, and industry best practices.
Site Safety & Compliance
- Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and hazard assessments.
- Monitor worker and subcontractor compliance with company safety standards.
- Identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions proactively.
- Conduct risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of safety-related activities.
Incident Management & Return-to-Work Programs
- Investigate incidents, accidents, injuries, and near misses.
- Complete incident reports and maintain accurate safety records.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders on WorkSafeBC claims management.
- Support Return-to-Work and modified-duty programs.
- Track safety metrics and identify trends for continuous improvement.
Training & Team Support
- Facilitate site safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Participate in Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee meetings.
- Provide coaching and guidance to workers and site supervisors.
- Support project kickoffs with safety orientation and planning.
- Administer first aid support as required.
Project Scope
- Large-scale multi-residential high-rise developments
- Commercial and institutional construction projects
- Healthcare and educational facilities
- Mechanical and plumbing construction installations
- Multiple active projects throughout the Lower Mainland
What You BringRequired:
- Certified Construction Safety Officer (CSO) designation.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience as a CSO on high-rise construction projects.
- Strong understanding of WorkSafeBC regulations, policies, and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge and experience working within BCCSA COR-certified environments.
- Occupational First Aid Level 1 certification.
- Valid BC Driver's License with a clean driving abstract.
- Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while building strong relationships with project teams.
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting Return-to-Work programs and claims management.
- Gold Seal Certification.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation.
- Experience within mechanical, plumbing, or design-build construction environments.
Working Environment
- Primarily site-based throughout the Lower Mainland.
