KITCHEN ASSISTANT (DUAL-SITE SUPPORT ROLE)

Reporting to the Centre Director, the Kitchen Assistant is an integral member of the Kids & Company team, supporting the daily operation of the kitchens at both the Hammond Plains and Kingswood locations. This dual-site role assists with meal service, food preparation, dishwashing, sanitation, and overall kitchen maintenance to ensure a secure, clean, and efficient food service environment.

A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required for this position, as daily travel between the two locations is an essential part of the role.

Kingswood: 1345 Hammonds Plains Road, Hammonds Plains, NS B4B 1P6

Key Responsibilities

- Assist with the preparation, portioning, and delivery of meals and snacks to classrooms, ensuring food is distributed safely and on schedule.
- Prepare and organize meal service bins, serving supplies, and delivery carts for daily meals and snack service.
- Collect dishes, utensils, and meal service equipment from classrooms following meal service.
- Wash, rinse, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, food trolleys, and kitchen equipment in accordance with food safety standards.
- Assist with light food preparation, including fruit cutting, portioning, and other kitchen support duties as assigned.
- Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen workspaces, equipment, storage areas, and meal service items.
- Complete daily kitchen cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, waste removal, and end-of-day sanitation procedures.
- Assist with organizing, storing,



and rotating food products, kitchen supplies, and inventory.
- Follow all food safety, sanitation, allergy-awareness, and workplace health and safety policies and procedures.
- Travel between the Hammond Plains and Kingswood locations to provide operational support, meal service assistance, dishwashing, and kitchen maintenance as required.
- Work collaboratively with the Cook, Centre Director, and classroom staff to support efficient kitchen operations.
- Perform other related duties as required to support the overall operation of the kitchens.

Qualifications & Requirements

- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
- Ability to travel between Hammond Plains and Kingswood throughout the workday.
- Previous experience in a kitchen, food service, childcare, hospitality, or a similar environment is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices is an asset.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to perform physical duties, including lifting, carrying supplies, and standing for extended periods.

This is a dual-site position requiring daily travel between Hammond Plains and Kingswood to support meal service, kitchen sanitation, and overall food service operations.
