OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Care is responsible for the overall management and supervision of Shawenim Abinoojii’s (SAI’s) Northern, Southern and Sacred Care Programs. The Director of Care is part of the senior management team and is responsible for program development and implementation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Care Programs and services.

· Ensure the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization's mission and reflect the priorities and strategic objectives of SAI.

· Conduct ongoing program development that meets and/or exceeds Provincial Foster Care Licensing Standards and/or the standards set out by First Nations with respect to Foster Care services.





· Development of unique and required Foster Care Resources that respond to the needs of the children and families of the Southeast First Nations (Bloodvein, Hollow Water, Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, Berens River, Poplar River, Pauingassi, Little Grand Rapids and Black River).

· Maintain awareness of research and reports related to Foster Care Services and strategize proactive implementation of appropriate recommendations.

· Provide direction and support to the Southern Care, Northern Care and Sacred Care Program Supervisors.

· Approve House Parent applicants for all Care Programs.

· Assess and monitor quality of service provisions and ensure efficiencies of the program.

· Track and monitor statistics of program effectiveness for reporting purposes.

· Monitor the financial guidelines for all Care Programs.

· Maintain consistent and concise communication with the Executive Director through monthly and annual reports.

· Participate in operational planning and decision-making processes alongside SAI Directors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

- MSW or BSW and 5+ years of related experience in the field.
- 3-5 years of Supervisory experience.
- Knowledge in the area of Addiction and Trauma.
- Knowledge of the Child and Family Services (CFS) sector and legislation.




- Demonstrate knowledge and/or understanding of Indigenous perspectives, First Nations culture and traditional philosophies.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and create workplans.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience developing and supporting a strong, efficient and respectful team-based approach to service delivery.
- Understanding of Community living in the Southeast region.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, word processing (MS Word), Spreadsheets (Excel), E-mail (Outlook) and Internet.
- Excellent communication, organization, problem solving and team skills.
- Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle and acceptable Driver’s Abstract are a condition of employment.
- Must have clear Criminal Record (vulnerable Sector Check), Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Prior contact Check.
- Ability to speak Anishinaabe preferred.
